The NASCAR organization awards the NASCAR Manufacturers’ Championship to the most successful manufacturer over a season, determined by a points system based on race results. Up until the 2013 season, the points of the Manufacturer’s leaderboard were calculated by adding the points scored by the team’s/manufacturer’s highest-finishing driver.
According to this system, the winning manufacturer of the season will receive nine points, the second-highest finishing manufacturer will receive six points, the third-highest manufacturer will receive four points, and the fourth-highest finishing manufacturer will receive three points. However in 2014, NASCAR introduced a new system of mirroring the points structure of the Owner’s championships. This system includes the highest-finishing driver for each manufacturer earning the same points the representing team earned during the race, including bonus points.
