The Hendrick Motorsports president Jeff Andrews has touched upon how Jeff Gordon playfully expressed concern for Kyle Larson's mega potential following the #5 driver's emphatic Bristol victory. Following the race's conclusion, Gordon asked Larson if he was ready to break every one of his records before he retires from the sport.
Kyle Larson took a mighty win at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday as he held off his teammate Chase Elliott and 23XI Racing's Bubba Wallace. With this, the #5 driver claimed his 28th Cup Series victory and qualified for round two of the playoffs.
Interestingly, this was also Larson's fifth Cup Series victory this season. Speaking during the post-race press conference, Andrews rated it "up there at the top" for Hendrick Motorsports. He also opened up about how Gordon, the $200 million worth (as per Celebrity Net Worth) Hendrick Motorsports' vice chairman, shared his concerns with Larson:
"I was in victory lane and saw Jeff Gordon come up to Kyle and ask him if he was going to break every one of his records before he was done," Andrews said. "But yeah, just a great accomplishment by these two guys, super proud and ready to get on to Kansas with our four cars." (0:43-0:56)
After Kyle Larson took the Checkered Flag, he complimented his car, saying this was one of the best Chevrolet Camaro ZL1s he had driven as a Hendrick Motorsports driver. He said:
"I've had a lot of good cars since I've come to Hendrick Motorsports, so it's tough to say (if that's the best one). But man, that was just great execution all weekend by the team. Practiced good. You've got to qualify good; we did that. Yeah, just had a great car. Thanks to the whole 5 team. They're the best in the business. We dominate a lot of races but we might not close them all out, so it feels really good to close one out here."
Denny Hamlin, Christopher Bell, and Ryan Blaney came home in fourth, fifth, and sixth place respectively. Ryan Preece, Chase Briscoe, Alex Bowman, and Ross Chastain rounded off the top ten at the Bass Pro Shops Night Race.
Kyle Larson created NASCAR history with Bristol victory
Kyle Larson's emphatic victory at Bristol on Saturday earned him multiple accolades. Besides getting direct access to the Round of 12, Larson also scripted history by creating multiple records.
The Hendrick Motorsports driver took the victory with a 7.008 second lead. which is the biggest gap between the winner and second-placed driver. Christopher Bell of Joe Gibbs Racing held the record earlier, as he won with a 5.465-second margin at the Phoenix Raceway.
