The Michael Jordan-co-owned 23XI Racing will likely expand its operations in the coming years, Bob Pockrass, a renowned NASCAR insider, has revealed, despite Toyota's engine scarcity. Thanks to Tyler Reddick, 23XI Racing has become the NASCAR regular season winner for the first time since its inception. His incredible performances in the latter half of the regular season helped Denny Hamlin and Jordan claim their first success, and now, they are looking for more.
Having sealed his place in the playoffs, Reddick held off the Hendrick Motorsports duo of Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott to claim the regular season championship. With the playoff races still to take place, Pockrass' latest revelation is nothing but positive news for the 23XI fans.
An X user asked Pockrass if 23XI Racing would expand since Brad Keselowski did not confirm Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing's three-car charter for next season. Replying to this, the Fox Sports journalist said:
"23XI will still most likely expand as far as I can tell."
Both RFK and 23XI run two full-time Cup Series cars, and the Brad Keselowski-co-owned team's expansion in the charter could have direct implications for Jordan's team. However, no concrete report on it is available yet.
On top of that, Stewart-Haas Racing's dismantling freed four charters, which none of the teams have been able to claim so far because of the delay between NASCAR and team owners. Amid this, $3.2 billion-worth Jordan (as per Forbes) has Toyota Racing Development issues to deal with.
Reports say that Toyota does not have enough engines to supply to 23XI Racing even if they increase their charter next season. In a nutshell, 23XI Racing's expansion will likely be on the cards, but TRD needs to have its say.
Denny Hamlin explains 23XI Racing's charter stance
Denny Hamlin, co-owner of 23XI Racing, recently opened up about his team's upcoming charter plan for the next season. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver, amid the ongoing tussle between NASCAR and team owners regarding the charter, revealed that they are yet to conclude, and are not even "close" to securing a deal.
Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports said:
"Denny Hamlin said there is still work to do to get a charter agreement done: “I do not believe we’re close.” I said I heard from some owners/executives who said they feel it is close. Hamlin: “Some think we are and some think we aren’t.""
In the podcast "Actions Detrimental", Hamlin said that 23XI Racing would want a decent charter deal from NASCAR.
"NASCAR's got their stance, and the teams have theirs. We'll just see where this goes over the next few weeks. It's never been great, you know, I think personally from 23XI's perspective, we would take a decent deal, not even a fair deal, just a decent one, and from our standpoint, it's got a ways to go."
While 23XI's Racing's Tyler Reddick is all set to compete for the NASCAR Cup Series championship against his team owner Denny Hamlin in Atlanta this weekend, Bubba Wallace, another 23XI driver, missed out on the qualification.
