2014 NASCAR Cup Series champion, Kevin Harvick, has built an exceptional legacy in stock car racing. With over 800 Cup Series starts, he has achieved 60 wins. Harvick also claimed the 2020 regular-season championship and was crowned the champion of the Xfinity Series twice (2001 and 2006). These accomplishments solidify his standing as one of motorsport's greatest drivers.
However, despite his laurels in the sport, Harvick had a reputation for being involved in several feuds with fellow drivers. One of the most famous ill-famed moments in his career was when he got into a tussle with Hendrick Motorsports driver Chase Elliott in the final stages of his NASCAR career.
Let us discuss three similar iconic moments from Harvick's career, including his altercation with Elliott.
3 iconic Kevin Harvick no-filter moments in NASCAR
#3 Jeff Gordon vs. Brad Keselowski (2014)
Kevin Harvick once played the notorious role of an enabler when Jeff Gordon and Brad Keselowski clashed during the 2014 AAA Texas 500 after Keselowski's aggressive pass punctured Gordon's tire, costing him critical points. Post-race tensions escalated when Gordon approached Keselowski amidst a heated crew exchange.
Harvick, who was watching from the sidelines, intervened by pushing Keselowski toward Gordon, igniting a brawl. Adding to the friction, Keselowski secured a third-place finish, intensifying emotions after the contentious incident.
#2 Kevin Harvick vs Juan Pablo Montoya (2007)
Kevin Harvick was piloting the #29 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing for the seventh consecutive year, of his 13 years with the historic team. In the second race of the Round of 16 at Watkins Glen International, Harvick and Juan Pablo Montoya were both running in the top ten during a restart in the final stage of the race.
In a dramatic turn of events, Montoya got bumped by Martin Truex Jr., causing a chain reaction and sending Montoya's #42 Chevy into the former champion's RCR machine.
Following the incident, the 49-year-old Harvick and the former Formula One driver got into a tussle on the track. Eventually, Harvick finished the race in P36, and Juan Pablo Montoya, in a disappointing P39.
#1 Kevin Harvick vs Chase Elliott (2021)
Former Cup Series champions Chase Elliott and Kevin Harvick clashed after the Bass Pro Shops Night Race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Hendrick Motorsports driver Elliott, the defending champion that year, was forced to pit on lap 464 due to a punctured tire caused by contact with Harvick.
Upon returning to the track, Elliott's #9 Chevrolet made contact with Harvick's #4 Ford, which was leading the race. This slowed Harvick enough to allow Elliott’s teammate, Kyle Larson, to claim victory. Following the race, an intense argument broke out between Elliott and Harvick, escalating to physical shoves before NASCAR officials got involved.
Harvick later criticized Elliott's actions, accusing him of throwing a "temper tantrum."
