Frankie Muniz, the former TV star-turned-NASCAR driver, expressed his displeasure with the city of Los Angeles on social media. The title character of the show Malcolm in the Middle voiced his opinions after landing in the city.
Muniz wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
"I landed in Los Angeles 23 minutes ago and I'm already disgusted by this hell hole."
In just over 24 hours, the post garnered 13 million views. Many users shared in Muniz's disdain for the California city, with one writing:
"Best thing I ever did was move OUT of LA."
"Well, it’s the 2nd most populated city in the world. There are good parts of the city, but it takes half a brain to find them," another user wrote.
"I was there a few months ago for work. To say it's an "hell hole" is being kind," commented another user.
A few X users had tongue-in-cheek reactions and wrote that the $30m worth (as per Celebrity Net Worth) driver's issue wasn't with LA itself, but with the airport. One person wrote:
"You can't even get out of the airport in 23 minutes so... You don't like the airport?"
"23 minutes ago? You're still at the airport," another user wrote.
Not everyone took a liking to the part-time NASCAR driver's opinion, however, as many came to the defense of one of the nation's largest cities. One user commented:
"I'm sure the feeling is mutual."
"So, leave! Just like your acting career, no one will notice when you’re gone," replied another user.
Some users felt LA wasn't as bad as other locations, with one saying:
"Wait until you visit Florida."
"You live in Arizona. It ain't much better," wrote another.
Muniz's post sparked quite the reaction for those taking his side and others who disagreed, but there's no doubt the 38-year-old was disgruntled when he touched down in L.A.
Muniz's rise to fame and transition to NASCAR
The New Jersey native's first claim to fame was the hit show Malcolm in the Middle on FOX, which ran from 2000-2006. After the show ran its course, he was ready to pursue a career in racing. Muniz competed in the Formula BMW USA Championships, and from 2007-2009, he took on the Champ Car Atlantic Championship.
Muniz's first opportunity to race stock cars came in October 2021 when he competed in the SPEARS Southwest Tour Series. He got his big break in 2023 when he moved up to the ARCA Menards Series and competed in all 20 races while recording 11 top-tens and one top-five to finish fourth in the standings.
This season, Muniz competes part-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Truck Series, and ARCA Menards Series.
