NASCAR veteran Martin Truex Jr.'s younger brother Ryan Truex is poised to mount another challenge for a strong finish in the Xfinity Series after his disappointing Talladega crash.
Ryan Truex, the younger sibling of NASCAR superstar and former Cup Series champion Martin Truex Jr., has struggled to reach the same heights as his brother. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver, piloting the No. 20 Toyota in the Xfinity Series, registered a dismal 34th-place finish at Talladega Superspeedway last weekend.
Following up on an impressive seventh-place finish in his first race of the season in Texas, Truex ended his night prematurely in Talladega courtesy of a DNF. Nevertheless, the 32-year-old driver continues his pursuit of victory as he enters Dover Motor Speedway this weekend.
Speaking to journalist Bob Pockrass following his DNF last Saturday, Ryan Truex expressed optimism about his prospects at the Xfinity race in Dover. He stated:
"Obviously these cars are fast and I have a good track record there. So, we'll see. I'm looking forward to it, for sure."
He added:
"There's still a trophy to go win, and a race to go defend. You know, continue to prove why I deserve to be out here, and continue to make this thing happen that I have been trying to make happen for 15 years now."
Martin Truex Jr. on brother Ryan's Dover win last season
Ryan's win at the 1.03-mile track last season was the first victory of his NASCAR career. Moreover, with Martin Truex Jr's win in the Cup Series later that weekend, the Truex brothers became the fifth brother-pair in NASCAR history to win a race in the same weekend.
Martin Truex Jr. recently spoke to Speed Sport about Ryan's victory in Dover last season:
"The whole weekend was pretty special last year. For Ryan (Truex) to finally get that first Xfinity win out of the way was really cool - at our home track and probably one of my favorite tracks was really neat."
Reflecting on his own preparations for the Delaware-based circuit, Truex Jr. offered insights into the importance of qualifying well to set the stage for a successful outing. He said:
"I think it's important we qualify well, so hopefully we do that. Generally, when you qualify well there, you get a good pit stall and it sets you up for a smoother day. Hopefully we can qualify well and it can set us up for a really good day."
While winless this season, Martin Truex Jr. is ranked second in the NASCAR Cup Series standings. He has 344 points to his name, courtesy of two top-5 and five top-10 finishes in 10 races this season.
