Kelley Earnhardt recently shared a touching story about her employee’s young son discovering a passion for NASCAR. In an episode of NASCAR Insiders Roundtable, the co-owner of JR Motorsports and Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s sister talked about the heartwarming experience.
"Seeing an employee’s young son at the Summer Shootout was a great reminder of how passion grows, no matter the age," she said.
$50M-worth businesswoman, Kelley Earnhardt (according to Celebrity Net Worth), recalled the child's excitement after the event, when he called his grandpa and declared his desire to race.
“This little three or four-year-old went home and called his grandpa, saying, ‘I want to race!’ It’s amazing to see how the adrenaline and excitement of racing captivates even the youngest fans,” she revealed.

Kelley Earnhardt and team helping young drivers
The JR Motorsports team, founded by Kelly's brother, Dale Earnhardt Jr., is known for spotting and guiding new drivers. Kelly oversees the team, using her experience as a former stock car racer at Hickory Motor Speedway and Myrtle Beach Speedway.
The team helps drivers between the ages of 14 and 21 launch their careers through the Drivers Edge Development program. This joint venture between Chevrolet, JR Motorsports and GMS Racing supports drivers with physical, mental, and technical training. It also helps them build their brand and build other partner relations.
“We want to give people that opportunity. JR Motorsports was designed with that in mind, and now with the help of GMS and Chevrolet, Drivers Edge Development will provide a clear-cut path and more options for drivers to get there," Kelly Earnhardt said.
In the same Insiders Roundtable, Carson Kvapil, the son of 2003 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Travis Kvapil, also shared his experiences. Kvapil competes full-time in the CARS Late Model Stock Tour with JR Motorsports, and part-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Kvapil, who is part of the Drivers Edge Development program, talked about the challenges of moving up the ranks in his motorsport career.
“It’s stressful, for sure,” Kvapil said. “When I started, there were always rivalries. My dad emphasized having fun, but as I grew older and more serious, the competition intensified.”
Kvapil's 2022 season was a standout. He secured the championship in the Late Model Stock Tour after strong wins at Caraway Speedway and North Wilkesboro Speedway.
This year's Drivers Edge Development program includes Rajah Caruth and Daniel Dye.
