AJ Allmendinger's wife Tara recently opened up about a congenital disability affecting their son, Aero James, and how she aims to spread awareness through the P.U.R.P.L.E. Ribbon Project.
AJ and his wife Tara welcomed their firstborn Aero James on September 7, 2023. Their son was born with craniosynostosis - a congenital disability that affects 1 in 2,500 babies. It is a birth defect in which bones in the baby's skull join together before the brain is fully formed.
Tara Allmendinger shared that their son underwent surgery at just three and a half months old, last December to remove prematurely fused bones. As a first-time parent, she described the experience as terrifying.
"Becoming parents has been our greatest adventure. Our son Aero was born with craniosynostosis, a congenital disability that affects 1 in 2,500 babies. He needed surgery to remove prematurely fused bone from his skull at three and a half months old; my husband and I were brand new parents, absolutely terrified," she said.
"I created the P.U.R.P.L.E. Ribbon Project to ensure no family feels alone in their journey with Craniosynostosis," she added.
Tara Allmendinger, representing North Carolina as USOA Mrs North Carolina at the National Pageant, opened up about her experience with craniosynostosis. Drawing from her experiences, she has created the P.U.R.P.L.E. Ribbon Project to support other families facing similar challenges.
