Former Cup Series driver Matt Tifft was kicked in the face amid a confrontation following a race in Toledo, Ohio. The 28-year-old competes in the ASA STARS National Tour.

After getting taken out of the race by fellow drivers Billy VanMeter and Even Shotko, the two-time Xfinity Series pole sitter went to confront the team to express his displeasure.

The confrontation was caught on camera and saw the Virginia native being brought down by mutiple team members of the opposition, with one saying that the driver came to the wrong place. Tifft was on his hands and knees as he was met with a violent kick to the face by an unidentified crew member, which left the driver in a bloodied state.

Moments after Tifft got back to his feet, he calmly told VanMeter to not take other drivers out on the racetrack, but the latter's response was inaudible. The former Front Row Motorsports driver shared the clip on Instagram to further express his frustration.

"Had a great race going before getting wrecked by somebody who decided to go on and take out 3 more cars last night. Can’t stand people who have no respect for others equipment. It’s always a good sign when you go and confront somebody and several teams come up and thank you. Hopefully the last one to be 'VanMetered'" he wrote.

Tifft chatted with those who came up to check on him following the incident. With blood covering his face and a bruise under his left eye, the part-time Super Late Models driver explained his intention:

"I just wanted to go give him a little piece of my mind."

Matt Tifft stepped away from NASCAR following an epilepsy diagnosis

Matt Tifft burst onto the NASCAR scene in 2014, making his debut in the Truck Series at the Martinsville Speedway. He then joined Joe Gibbs Racing in the Xfinity Series, driving part-time for the organization in 2015 and 2016.

Midway through the 2016 season, Tifft suffered a back injury that forced him to sit out. It was then that he was discovered to have a brain tumor that required surgery. Following a successful recovery, he returned to racing in September of that year.

Tifft was promoted to full-time Xfinity competition in 2017 for JGR, placing a career-best third place twice that year. He then moved to Richard Childress Racing the following year and proceeded to move up to the Cup Series in 2019 for Front Row Motorsports.

Tifft competed in 32 races that season. Ahead of the Cup Series race at Martinsville in October that year, he suffered a seizure and was forced to sit out the remainder of the season. Tifft has not raced at NASCAR's premier level since.
