Insiders slammed the NASCAR authority over the lack of competition in the sport lately. They were of the opinion that the top three teams, Hendrick Motorsports, Joe Gibbs Racing, and Team Penske, ended up taking all the accolades, while other teams were left with meager success.
Alan Cavanna, Jeff Hammond, and Doug Rice came together to discuss HMS, JGR, and Team Penske's dominance in NASCAR. During Performance Racing Network's Fast Talk's latest episode on YouTube, they questioned NASCAR about the imbalance in the competition.
To support their argument, they brought out how the top three teams took 19 wins out of 22 races this year, while only three wins were claimed by Trackhouse Racing, RFK Racing, and 23XI Racing.
"I'm looking at these teams, outside the big three Alen, and correct me if I'm wrong here, I'm counting only three wins in 22 races," Rice said. "Daniel Suarez won at Atlanta, Brad Keselowski won at Darlington, and Tyler Reddick. That's it. The other nineteen wins all belong to three organizations. (1:54)
"Here's a better question, is this a good thing for NASCAR, or is this NASCAR should be, 'woo, all the power is weighted to this side of the table,'" he further added. (2:18)
Notably, Hendrick Motorsports, Joe Gibbs Racing, and Team Penske have statistically dominated the 2024 regular season. Among them, HMS has been the most dominant as their drivers picked nine wins in 22 races.
Kyle Larson claimed four victories, followed by William Byron, Chase Elliott, and Alex Bowman with three, one, and one wins, respectively. JGR's Denny Hamlin and Christopher Bell won three each, while Team Penske's Ryan Blaney, Austin Cindric, and Joey Logano claimed two, one, and one victory, respectively.
Hendrick Motorsports emerged as the most successful NASCAR team
The recent success story of Hendrick Motorsports is second to none. In their 40-year history, they claimed 310 Cup Series race wins and counting. With this, they took themselves miles away from rivals such as Petty Enterprises (they went defunct in 2009), and Richard Childress Racing.
They have 14 Cup Series titles to their names, with the most recent one arriving in 2021. They won their first title back in 1995 and reigned supreme till 1998. They repeated the same in 2006 when they claimed five back-to-back titles till 2010.
Much like the team, many renowned drivers drove for Hendrick Motorsports, from Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. to the latest batch of Larson, Elliott, Byron, and Bowman.
