Double NASCAR Cup Series champion Joey Logano will replace Hailie Deegan at the Chicago Xfinity race. Deegan has had an underwhelming season in the Xfinity Series so far. AM Racing announced they want to use Logano's experience and knowledge to turn their season around in the second half.

Logano won the Nashville race after multiple overtimes extended the race finish. However, the Penske driver defended against a super-fast Tyler Reddick to earn his maiden race win in 2024 and book his playoff spot.

AM Racing team president Wade Moore commented:

“The level of competition in the Xfinity Series is as competitive as it’s ever been."

He further added:

“We haven’t had the success on track that we were hoping for in the first half of the season. When the opportunity to have Joey Logano in the car at Chicago became a possibility, we felt we needed to take advantage of the knowledge and feedback that a two-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion could provide to our teams’ growth.”

Hailie Deegan has 174 points so far this season and ranks 27th in the Xfinity driver's standings. Moreover, in the seventeen races she has started so far, her record is abysmal to say the least. She has DNFd in three races so far and has an average finish of 26.82.

Team Penske driver Joey Logano secured his playoff berth with a victory in Nashville. The 2-time champion started the race from 27th position, but excellent tactics and some great fuel conservation saw him take the well-deserved checkered flag.

The race featured a record five Overtimes and an extra 31 laps than the scheduled 400 laps. Tyler Reddick finished the race in third position while Zane Smith earned his career-best finish with a runner-up spot.

Joey Logano said after the race win (via NASCAR on TSN):

"It's been a stressful few weeks trying to get into the playoffs and being able to win here is this huge for our season. So felt great to get that.

The Penske driver also added:

"To try to make the playoffs is not easy these days of these Next Gen cars and it was so equally matched. I've made a lot of mistakes even some today and it's nice to be able to overcome them."
"This is just a much-needed win, for sure."

NASCAR returns to Chicago next week which will host its sophomore race this year. Shane van Gisbergen won his first-ever NASCAR race on his debut last season. Who will win it this time?
