Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s wife, Amy Earnhardt, shared her reaction to a fun fact about annual shark bite cases. Earnhardt was surprised to find out that more people in New York get bitten by other people than shark bites globally.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. is a former NASCAR Cup Series driver who wed Amy Reimann in December 2016. The couple met in 2009 when Dale Jr. hired her and her firm to design the interior of his Kannapolis home.
Per Instagram, Amy dropped her three-word reaction to the post about New Yorkers and sharks. The post reads:
"The annual number of worldwide shark bites is 20 times less than the number of people bitten by other people in New York."
In response, she wrote:
"What the hell."
According to the post, the International Shark Attack File (ISAF) states there are about 69 unprovoked shark bites around the world annually. Meanwhile, human bite cases in New York City tally over a hundred per year.
This post follows an earlier Instagram story where she and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are enjoying by the beach.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. may have retired from NASCAR but still owns the championship-winning Xfinity Series team, JR Motorsports. The 50-year-old doesn't have plans to race in NASCAR next year, though he confirmed a late model racing schedule in the Budweiser No. 8 car.
Amy Earnhardt once shared how Dale Earnhardt Jr. reconsidered marriage
During an interview in 2018, Amy Earnhardt shared how Dale Earnhardt Jr. reconsidered marriage after years of avoiding it. Amy said her now-husband later agreed to tie the knot after realizing the value of marriage in starting a family.
Amy said (via In Depth With Graham Bensinger):
“He said so many times for so many years that he just wasn't going to get married. He didn't want to get married. He didn't see the point in getting married, but he wanted to have kids. And so, I told him, I get you're not wanting to get married; we don't have to get married, but I'm never having children with you if we aren't. I'm just not doing that, not willing to do that.” [2:30]
She added:
“I think because he realized how important it was and how important family was, and that is kind of the starting element of it. And he wanted to do all of that right. Coming from his background with his mom and dad and just all the things they went through, I think he realized that if he continued with this path he was on mentally, he wasn't going to be much different.”
Today, the couple is celebrating their eighth year of marriage after tying the knot ahead of Dale Jr.'s final full-time NASCAR Cup Series season. They also share two daughters: Isla Rose and Nicole Lorraine.
