Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s ace driver Justin Allgaier secured his first Xfinity Series title in a dramatic Championship Race at the Phoenix Raceway. The 50-year-old commented on Allgaier's win, as he secured the fourth driver championship for JR Motorsports in the Xfinity Series.
Justin Allgaier, who pilots the #7 Chevrolet for Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s JR Motorsports, started the Championship race in P37 as he had to switch to a backup car, following a crash during practice. Allgaier swiftly moved up the field before finding himself among the frontrunners.
As the white flag waved in the final race restart during overtime, Allgaier was leading the field as Riley Herbst, who is not a playoff driver passed the #7 Chevy. However, Allgaier was in front of the three remaining playoff drivers and crossed the start-finish line in P2, securing his first Xfinity Series title.
Following the end of the race, Dale Earnhardt Jr. praised Allgaier for his incredible abilities as a driver, saying he badly wanted the 38-year-old to win because of his contributions to JR Motorsport. Dale Jr. said(via NASCAR Xfinity on X, formerly Twitter):
"He's just done so much for us. If there's a, you know, an image in a dictionary of a model race car driver, it's him. He's been incredible for our partners. Anyone that's worked with him on the partner side loves him."
"He goes above and beyond there. And he drives hard, sometimes it's too hard, but I'd rather have a driver like that going forward all the time and pushing as hard as he can. He's a lot of fun. We've had a lot of fun over the years, but I badly, badly wanted him to get this championship because he's a champion, he deserves it." The two-time Xfinity Series champion Dale Earnhardt Jr. added
Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s JR Motorsports had three of four drivers in the Round of 8, however, only Justin Allgaier was able to secure a spot in the championship race at the Phoenix Raceway.
“I didn't give one s**t about that owner championship”: Dale Earnhardt Jr. reveals his ‘want’ as Justin Allgaier brings Xfinity trophy home
Dale Earnardt Jr.'s JR Motorsports did not just secure the 2024 Xfinity Series driver championship but also secured the owner's title. However, Earnhardt Jr. expressed that he was unbothered about winning the title as an owner, as he was too busy celebrating his driver Justin Allgaier's first title.
During the post-race interview at Phoenix Raceway, Dale Earnhardt Jr. said:
"I probably will get in trouble for saying this. I didn't give one s**t about that owner's championship. I was like, 'I want my driver on that stage. That's all that matters to me,' especially with Justin being in the middle of this. I wanted it for him."
"I really didn't even know where that netted out to be honest with you. We'd done the burnout, the celebration, I had no clue if we won the owners, it didn't really matter to me. But, I was so happy for Justin cause he deserves it. [00:25]" he added
Defending Xfinity Series champion Cole Custer finished P2 in the driver's championship with 4029 points, just six behind Allgaier. AJ Allmendinger was third with 4028 points while Austin Hill was fourth with 4027.
