The season opener for NASCAR, the 2025 Daytona 500, is set to take place on the 16th of next month. The race will have 40 spots with some reserved for drivers from teams that own charters and others available for "open" teams.

Fox Sports' Bob Pockrass recently shared an update on the five confirmed open cars while also sharing four potential ones in the latest tweet.

"Open cars for Daytona confirmed: 44-Yeley (NY Racing), 62-Alfredo (Beard), 66-Wallace (MBM), 78-McLeod (Live Fast), 91-Castroneves (Trackhouse)," Pockrass wrote on X.

The Daytona 500 qualifying race at the Daytona International Speedway will see Helio Castroneves, a four-time Indy 500 champion, make his NASCAR debut. He will drive the Trackhouse Racing’s No. 91 car. Mike Wallace, 65, will also return to the track in MBM Motorsports‘ 66 car after retiring from the Cup Series in 2015.

JJ Yeley will race for NY Racing in the No. 44 car. The 48-year-old has been competing on and off in the Cup Series for over 20 years and has a best Daytona finish of 10th. BJ McLeod, another part-time driver since 2015, will also race in Live Fast's No. 78 car.

Meanwhile, Martin Truex Jr., who retired from full-time racing last year, is expected to return with Tricon Garage at the Daytona 500.

"Likely: 15-TBA (RWR), 84-Johnson (Legacy), TBA-Truex Jr (expect Tricon), 50-AmeriVet is iffy... I've heard at least 1 more possible," Pockrass added.

Seven-time NASCAR Cup champion Jimmie Johnson is likely to continue with his team Legacy Motor Club in the No. 84 car. Whereas Rick Ware Racing plans to enter the No. 15 car but no driver has been announced yet. Team AmeriVet might also join with at least one more car.

Before the "Great American Race," there will be the Daytona 500 Qualifying on February 12 and the Duel at Daytona races on February 13, deciding the final race lineup.

"There is no race like the Daytona 500" - Anthony Alfredo on attempting the 2025 Daytona 500

Beard Motorsports announced on Friday that it will race in the 2025 Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway. Anthony Alfredo, who competed last year with the team at Daytona and finished 27th, will drive the No. 62 Chevrolet.

Alfredo, 25, competes full-time in the Xfinity Series and ran two other Cup races at the Talladega Superspeedway in 2024.

"There is no race like the Daytona 500 🏆 Thrilled to run it back in 2025 with @BeardOil62," Alfredo wrote on X.

The team, founded by Mark Beard Sr., is now run by his family. This will be their ninth season in NASCAR and their seventh time racing in the Daytona 500. Fortify Building Solutions will sponsor the No 62 team.
