NASCAR driver Brad Keselowski recently steered clear of a question regarding the controversy at Richmond Raceway in Virginia last Sunday. RCR's Austin Dillon swerved past the grid until he made contact with two cars right before the finish line to emerge victorious in the Cook Out 400.
Cup Series champion Keselowski pilots the #6 Ford for RFK Racing, competing full-time in the Series. The Michigan native has secured 34 Cup race wins in a career spanning 13 years. He is also the 2010 Xfinity Series champion.
Nearly everyone on the grid has shared their opinion on the controversy. It is not just Dillon's race-winning move that has gained popularity but also the penalty that NASCAR has sanctioned against the parties involved. Denny Hamlin, who finished second, suggested that the "unprecedented" situation called for a like solution.
In a press conference ahead of today's FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway in Cambridge Township, Brad Keselowski was asked about Richmond:
"I hate to ask one more question on the Dillon situation but if it would have just been Logano and not Denny Hamlin and then the spotter coming out with his comments, do you think Dillon would have skated on this? Or was it the totality of you know the 'Wreck-it-Ralph' going here, going there and then the spotter telling him to wreck them?" [at 08:26]
Keselowski promptly responded to the question by deflecting it.
"I think that's probably a better question for Elton Sawyer and NASCAR. I didn't sit in the room when they were making their decision to know exactly what was encapsulated in the decision-making process but I think it's fair to say that adding more things to the scenario doesn't do any favors to it, but I don't know if I could answer," Brad Keselowski said [at 08:47].
Keselowski currently holds the ninth spot on the driver standings with 636 points. This season, he has achieved 10 top-10 finishes and five top-five finishes. His victory in the Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina earlier this year secured him a place in the 2024 playoffs.
Brad Keselowski shares his thoughts on ending the regular season at Darlington
Co-owner of RFK Racing, Brad Keselowski broke a 110-race winless streak at Darlington in May. He started the race in the front row after Tyler Reddick secured pole position by a razor-thin margin but the #6 Ford eventually drove down victory lane.
In the aforementioned pre-race press conference, Keselowski was asked about his thoughts on returning to Darlington, where the 2024 regular season finale, the Cook Out Southern 500, is slated to be held on September 2.
"I'm really excited about hitting the season end at Darlington. I think we have a great shot to sweep the races. It's been a really good track for us at RFK, we've got some great cars to go there with [...] Whether it be Daytona or Darlington, now that the #6 car is locked in or since we've been locked in, we're fairly agnostic to what race it ends with," Brad Keselowski said [at 09:32].
After inclement weather produced a red flag for Keselowski's home race, the Firekeepers Casino 400 has been postponed to August 19th at 11:00 a.m. ET.
