RFK Racing driver and co-owner Brad Keselowski explained that his relationship with his Cup Series sentinel (spotter) TJ Majors is "unique" because the two of them are able to fulfill each other's needs during the races. He also mentioned that Majors is never "short of words," which is what he requires.
Motorsports provides a unique job to 'spotters' or 'race engineers,' as they are in constant communication with their drivers. The drivers, in turn, rely on this information to make sure they are extracting the most out of the car at any given point. Given this, drivers and their spotters need to work in perfect harmony.
Brad Keselowski, who has worked with TJ Majors since 2021, revealed how the two work in a "great relationship" despite the pressure while racing. The Ford driver explained that they both are fulfilling for each other, as Keselowski needs more and more information and Majors delivers it completely.
"I've known TJ Majors as my spotter for a long time and our relationship is unique in that sense. I kind of know what he's thinking he knows what I'm thinking and it just puts us on a unique wavelength, Keselowski said (at 0:30)"
He further explained that information is "power behind the wheel."
"So you know I'm a driver that really likes to hear a lot from his spotter and TJ Majors has never been accused of being short of words so it's a great relationship in that regard that we can both be served with our needs and I think information is power behind the wheel."
Majors started working with Keselowski mid-season in 2021 while he was still racing at Team Penske. When he moved to RFK Racing in the following season in the driver/co-owner capacity, Majors followed him, and the two have been working together since.
Brad Keselowski reveals his motivation to continue racing
The 40-year-old has been racing in the NASCAR Cup Series since 2008 when he debuted with Hendrick Motorsports. He then moved to Penske, where he won his first and only Cup Series championship to date in 2012.
After spending over a decade racing in the series, Brad Keselowski feels the most important element is to find the motivation to continue competitively in the sport. While he feels that being close to the championship could be a major motivation as well, it's watching his family during the races and on Victory Lane. He said:
"I think one of the challenges of being a driver in the Cup Series and going through 10 plus years experience, continuing to find your motivation. You can be motivated by a lot of different things certainly being really close and and just barely missing out on the you know the big trophy is a motivation upon itself. But you know for me one of the the biggest motivations is having my family with the racetracks. My son and two daughters being in Victory Lane." (at 1:35)
While his 2024 season didn't yield much with just one victory and thirteen other top-10 finishes, Brad Keselowski is hoping to be stronger in the next season behind the wheel of the #6 Ford.
