Brexton Busch, son of NASCAR driver Kyle Busch, recently received well-wishes from driver Matt DiBenedetto. The Xfinity Series driver took to his social media earlier today to congratulate the young driver for winning a Golden Driller trophy earlier this weekend.
DiBenedetto posted a picture of his screen on his Instagram stories that showed young Busch during a post-race interview, and added the caption:
"Watching Tulsa shootout tonight on @floracing Congrats @brextonbusch"
Busch scored a win on 4th January at the Tulsa Expo Raceway, when he came first in the Junior Sprints category of the Tulsa Shootout. His victory came after he qualified in pole position and then, after leading the entire race, took home the Golden Driller trophy; a feat that his father missed out on accomplishing this weekend. Speaking after the win, Brexton said:
“Yeah, that was awesome. I’m so glad to be here right now and win. I was definitely very lucky to not get into some lap traffic, I was going to… I was a little worried about that. But still, just awesome to win." [via FloRacing on Instagram]
His father also spoke about the win, comparing his feelings watching his son race to his own stints in the Cup Series. He said:
"I think this is more stress and more butterflies for me here than it is for the Daytona 500. This is such a huge deal, and it means so much to a family, what we do, and what we pour our lives into."
His mom, Samantha Busch, also talked about how the 9-year-old's drive the entire 2024 has been building towards the shootout, saying:
"I was crying, I’m so proud of him. He’s worked at this all year; he was so upset last year. Literally every race he went to this year, he said, ‘I’m doing it for Tulsa, I’m doing it for the driller,’ and he did it."
Brexton Busch finished 2024 after scoring 48 wins, 107 Top 5s, and 126 Top 10s. He also was the KKM Challenge Jr. Sprint Champion, Millbridge Restricted Points Champion, PA Speedweek Jr Sprint Champion, and the INEX Winter Nats Bandit Champion.
Brexton Busch beats Kyle Larson's son
Brexton Busch was not the only NASCAR child on the field at the Junior Sprints main event this weekend. Kyle Larson's son Owen was also competing, aiming for the prized Golden Driller trophy. However, it was Busch that reigned supreme this weekend, while young Larson finished his race in sixth place.
However, between the adults, Kyle Larson beat Kyle Busch at the Tulsa Shootout, scoring wins in the Winged Outlaw and Winged A-Class categories at the raceway, bringing home two Golden Drillers to add to his collection. With his latest victory, Larson is now a five-time Golden Driller winner with two previous Chili Bowl wins and a Tulsa Shootout Outlaw Kart victory.
