Freddie Kraft and Brett Griffin recently touched upon the swap deal between Spire Motorsports and Rick Ware Racing that involved Corey LaJoie and Justin Haley. The deal that saw Lajoie switch his team to move to Rick Ware Racing, and vice versa for Haley.
Kraft and Griffin recently sat together in the Door Bumper Clear podcast by Dirty Mo Media where they discussed the swap deal and its business side of things. Kraft, Bubba Wallace's spotter, told Griffin how things can be tricky for Justin Haley at Spire Motorsports.
According to Bob Pockrass, the LaJoie-Haley swap will not include the swap of spotters, and that will leave Haley to work with LaJoie's spotter, Stefan Parsons, this weekend. Furthermore, Haley will also be denied the support of Ford since he is switching to a Chevrolet team. Speaking about this, Kraft said,
"This is smart. The only thing that I'll say for Justin Haley that I think is not on the positive side and I think there's a ton, tons of things that are, is you're going to Spire [Motorsports] without Rodney [Childers], and you're going to Spire [Motorsports] without OEM [Original Equipment Manufacturers, Ford in this case] support."
Following this, Kraft emphasized how the teams have worked their way out to give Corey LaJoie and Justin Haley a few races head-start. The swap deal was agreed on for next season, but it is set to be executed with immediate effect from Kansas.
"But regardless I still think from a business perspective it's brilliant to make the move, why wouldn't you? Corey's gonna be in that car [51] it sounds like next year, Justin's obviously in the 7 next year, why wouldn't you give them a ten race head start? Neither one of them are in the playoff."
Corey LaJoie will race for Rick Ware Racing, work with Chris Osborne and drive the #51 Ford Mustang Dark Horse this weekend at Kansas Speedway. Justin Haley will take over the #7 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 of the Spire Motorsports and work with Parsons.
Corey LaJoie reacted to his Rick Ware Racing swap
Corey LaJoie has recently opened up about his trade to Rick Ware Racing. The former Spire Motorsports man in the latest Stacking Pennies podcast revealed that he found the deal formidable and without much "cons."
"I'm a big T-chart kind of fella. When I do major life decisions, particularly with my career, it comes down to T-chart, pros and cons, write it out," he said. "I don't see very many cons of this situation to be honest with." (1:10-1:27)
Following this, he added how he had a great month with the #7 car, but also at the same time emphasized the excitement of switching to a new team, and getting the opportunity to work with Ford.
Corey LaJoie recently suffered a DNF at the Bass Pro Shops Night Race and is currently 31st in the Cup Series Standings.
