Last week's race at the ROVAL witnessed Hendrick Motorsports driver Alex Bowman falling out of the playoff picture. Bowman's No. 48 car did not pass the post-race inspection and was disqualified. Hendrick Motorsports said that they would decide whether to appeal against the same the next day.
The Chevy team did not appeal to NASCAR to get the DQ revoked, which enraged the fans. When Hendrick Motorsports uploaded a post on X (formerly Twitter) stating the starting positions of their drivers at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, a fan wished for a non-HMS driver to win the Championship this year.
"What’s most enraging is how the 48 was Hendrick’s best car all playoffs and yet they still decided he wasn’t worth fighting for." the fan wrote. "Can’t wait for the ultimate karma in a non-HMS champion after they couldn’t be bothered to go through the hassle of attempting an appeal."
Fans felt that Hendrick Motorsports ruined the chances of Alex Bowman to advance further in the playoffs. Speaking of which, another fan said:
"Hey thanks for sc**wing over Bowmans great playoff run."
Here are a few other reactions to the post by Hendrick Motorsports:
"Bowman carrying even though you guys trying to force him out," a fan said.
"Great job ruining Alex’s season when he’s clearly capable of performing at a high enough level to win a championship!" added another.
"We love ya @Alex_Bowman. Get the W tomorrow and shove that 🏁 up everyone's tailpipe," a fan commented.
Bowman qualified third for Sunday's race. He turned a lap of 29.195 seconds at 184.963 miles per hour (as per NBC Sports). He will start the race in Row 2 alongside Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin, who qualified fourth.
Alex Bowman's phone called 911 following unfortunate playoff exit
Hours after last week's race, Alex Bowman received a call from his crew chief Blake Harris, who told him about the issues with post-race inspection. Later, Bowman got to know about his disqualification from social media. Needless to say, he wasn't happy.
"I proceeded to throw my phone in the pool, and my phone proceeded to call 9-1-1 and tell them I was in a car crash, so, my Sunday night wasn't very good, if I'm being honest with you," Alex Bowman told the media during a recent interview.
Bowman's phone hit the bottom of the pool and sent out an automated alert to 911, assuming that he was in a car crash. Although Bowman thought of getting his phone out of the pool 20 minutes later, the job was done by then.
"I guess they have a new thing where they report that you've been in a car crash if the phone feels something. So, that happened. It's a true story," Bowman chuckled.
Sunday's South Point 400 will mark Bowman's 15th start at the 1.5-mile trioval intermediate speedway. He has a win there, which came in 2022. Besides that, Bowman has two top 5s and one top 10 at LVMS.
