Carson Hocevar spills the beans on Spire Motorsport’s president’s remark about sleeping on the shop couch

Spire Motorsports president, Doug Duchardt, found Carson Hocevar sleeping peacefully on a couch at the shop and instantly had to do something about it. Days later, Hocevar revealed the story to a veteran FOX Sports journalist.

Hocevar said in the post that Pockrass uploaded on X, saying Duchardt had promised to arrange a blanket and a few pillows for him right in the doctor's room at the shop.

"I try not to make it a very often," said Carson Hocevar, remembering every instance of him napping on the couch. "When I sit down, it's really easy for me to fall asleep anywhere. Here we got a bed, a doctor's room now. They said they're gonna put together a blanket and pillows for me and I'm like, Guys I fell asleep once... I don't just live here!"

Sleep is necessary for athletes driving in the top-tier racing series of NASCAR. What Hocevar did was essentially a way to save a bit of commute time and put in a few more hours of sleep.

"I flew from Vegas because we had the road course testing and we had flown to Statesville so my truck was in Statesville which had my house keys and everything," explained the Portage native. "I'm like, alright, well, I can either drive 45 minutes up to Statesville, drive down, probably get an hour worth of nap or I can just do all that later and spend three hours and get a nap."

Carson Hocevar is currently in his rookie season as a NASCAR Cup Series full-timer, driving the number 77 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Spire Motorsports. His latest win came last October at Homestead-Miami Speedway, which was also his fourth victory overall in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. Hocevar, 21, also bagged the prestigious Winchester 400 trophy in 2020.

The NASCAR All-Star race is an extremely prestigious event. With this year's event set to roll out on the 0.625-mile course of the refurbished North Wilkesboro Speedway, the stakes are quite high. Twenty drivers will try their best to win the hefty $1 million prize money. And Carson Hocevar wants to be one of them.

But Hocevar does not have a guaranteed entry into the race yet. Nevertheless, for drivers like Carson Hocevar, who do not have a guaranteed spot in the race, the All-Star Race Fan Vote could be helpful. Which is why he has found out a way that could have him win the annual fan vote.

Carson Hocevar sought the help of Cup drivers Kaz Grala, Austin Dillon and Anthony Alfredo and asked them to record a video of themselves, speaking in support of Hocevar in the voting contest.

"I mean, I reached out to everyone that did have (a Cameo) that was in the vote," Hocevar said via Yahoo Sports. "If there were more people that had Cameos, I would have tried to reach out to them."

Getting in this race is important for Hocevar. He feels it is a free race that can give them an opportunity to make his car better.

"It's a free race that we can potentially have," said Hocevar. "We can go from the Open and then try stuff for the big show if we can get in. The big show's 200 laps, I think versus, 100."

As of now, Carson Hocevar stands 25th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings with 211 points to his name.
