Chase Elliott's former spotter, Eddie D'Hondt, has confirmed his role in NASCAR's Spire Motorsports next season. D'Hondt signed a multi-year deal in October this year, and according to his latest social media update, he will work with Justin Haley, Justin Allgaier, and Rajah Caruth.
D'Hondt worked with Elliott and his #9 Napa Auto Parts earlier at Hendrick Motorsports. Before working with him, he also spotted for former NASCAR driver and HMS Vice President Jeff Gordon on the same team. He stayed with the Rick Hendrick-owned outfit for 12 years before moving elsewhere.
D'Hondt claimed 18 victories with both drivers at HMS and helped Elliott claim the 2020 Cup Series championship. He worked with crew chief Rodney Childers during this time and will continue to work with him at Spire Motorsports next year. He answered a follower asking if he would spot for Haley next year on X:
"Yes sir. #7, #7 & # 71. @Justin_Haley_ @J_Allgaier @rajahcaruth_"
Per his statement, Eddie D'Hondt will spot for Justin Haley at Spire in the Cup Series, Justin Allgaier of JR Motorsports in the Xfinity Series, and Rajah Caruth of Spire Motorsports in the Truck Series. In the 2024 Cup Series season, D'Hondt moved from HMS to Stewart-Haas Racing to spot for Josh Berry. However, he had to move elsewhere as SHR was disbanded at the season's end after Tony Stewart withdrew from the sport earlier this year.
Even though the SHR co-owner rebranded the outfit to the Haas Factory Team for 2025, he kept one charter out of four, and it was not Berry's #4 car. Moreover, Berry also moved to Wood Brothers Racing to replace Harrison Burton, temporarily leaving D'Hondt without a job.
