Hendrick Motorsports driver Chase Elliott set a new personal best top 20 streak at the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday, May 26. Elliott, who finished a career-worst 17th in the 2023 standings, has bounced back this season.
2020 Cup Series champion Elliott debuted as the full-time driver in the Cup Series for Hendrick Motorsports in 2016. He replaced the NASCAR legend Jeff Gordon piloting the #24 Chevy and was named 2016 Cup Series Rookie of the Year.
In the modern era of NASCAR, the current #9 HMS driver holds the record for receiving the 'Most Popular Driver' award six consecutive times from 2018 to 2023. The 28-year-old Elliott also snapped his 42-winless streak at Texas Motor Speedway this year, marking his 19th career Cup Series victory.
According to Trey Ryan on X (formerly Twitter), Elliot's seventh-place finish in the 14th race of the 2024 Cup Series season at Charlotte was also his longest run in the top 20 in his NASCAR Cup Series career.
"Chase Elliott has finished top 20 in the last 17 NASCAR Cup Series races. This is the longest run of top 20s he’s ever had in his Cup Series career."
Apart from his prolific record in NASCAR's top-tier division, the Dawsonville native made a name for himself in the Xfinity Series before driving full-time in the Cup Series. Elliott became the first rookie and the youngest to win the Xfinity Series Championship, driving full-time for JR Motorsports, a team owned by NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Chase Elliott's first Xfinity Series win since 2016 at Charlotte
Ahead of the Memorial Day weekend, Chase Elliott secured his sixth career win in the Xfinity Series. He competed in the first race of his 2024 Xfinity season at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Elliot piloted the #17 Chevy for HMS. He started from 30th place on the grid and managed to secure his first win in the second tier of NASCAR's national series since 2016. Elliott held off #9 Brandon Jones of JR Motorsports with a victory margin of 0.500 seconds.
Chase Elliott is at the fourth spot in the Cup Series standings with 475 points, one win, 5 top-fives, and 7 top-tens after 14 starts in the 2024 season. Hendrick Motorsports' other three drivers are also a part of the top 10 standings in the Cup Series points table.
#5 Kyle Larson at P3 with 486 points, #24 William Byron at P5 with 461 points, and #48 Alex Bowman at P8 with 408 points.
