Chase Elliott received a special souvenir from Scott McLaughlin recently after the duo went out for some golf during the mid-week break from racing. McLaughlin swapped helmets with the NASCAR ace following their day out together, and Elliott thanked the former for his gesture.
As per the latest developments, Elliott and McLaughlin took out time from their busy schedule to indulge themselves in golf where the IndyCar star delivered impressive performances.
He scored a personal best of 74, which consisted of 31 putts and a best round score of +2. Besides this, he also had a double bogey-free round. McLaughlin posted about his achievement and the day from his official X account.
The post had two pictures, and in one of the images, he was standing next to Elliot holding the swapped helmet.
"Shot a PB 74 and swapped helmets with a Champ. Not a bad little Tuesday! Thanks @chaseelliott!" the IndyCar star wrote in the caption.
Quote-tweeting the post, the Hendrick Motorsports driver replied:
"Solid day on the sticks. Thanks for the helmet bud @smclaughlin93."
Scott McLaughlin is a relaxed man now as the 2024 NTT IndyCar season has concluded. The Big Machine Music City Grand Prix at Nashville Superspeedway was the season-ending race where the #3 driver came home in fifth place.
The Kiwi driver claimed three victories in 2024 (the most recent was in the Hy-Vee Milwaukee Mile 250) and ended his season in third place behind champion Alex Palou, and second-placed Colton Herta. Chase Elliott, however, has unfinished business in NASCAR.
Chase Elliott in the hunt for his second NASCAR championship
Chase Elliott claimed his first NASCAR Cup Series championship in 2020 when he fended off the challenges by Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano, and Denny Hamlin. He won the title with 5040 points, compared to Keselowski's 5035, Logano's 5034, and Hamlin's 5033.
Elliott was in the hunt for the Cup Series championship again following his qualification in the 2024 NASCAR playoff. The #9 Hendrick Motorsports driver claimed a victory this season (in Texas) and ended the regular season in third place behind Tyler Reddick and Kyle Larson.
However, his championship hunt did not go as planned as Elliott failed to make much headway in both playoff races so far. At Atlanta, he started the race in 16th place and finished it in eighth. Whereas at Watkins Glen, he qualified in 14th place and crossed the finish line in 19th.
However, on the bright side, Elliott currently has a +30 point buffer from the elimination cutline with one race to go (at Bristol). And that instils a lot of hope in him and his fans ahead of the 2024 NASCAR playoff Round 2.
