Ahead of the 2024 NASCAR playoff race at Kansas Speedway, Clint Bowyer revisited how Greg Biffle stole his win at his home track. Bowyer was deemed runner-up after he crossed Biffle under caution on the final lap of the 2007 Lifelock 400 race at Kansas.
In a career span of 15 years, NASCAR driver turned Fox analyst Bowyer secured 10 wins and competed for Richard Childress Racing, Michael Waltrip Racing, and Stewart-Haas Racing. Being a native of Kansas, the 45-year-old once came close to winning at his home track but couldn't after a turn of controversial rulings by NASCAR.
Seemingly, Biffle's Ford ran out of fuel and slowed down until the checkered flag after officials declared to finish the race under caution. Bowyer, who maintained the speed limit behind the pace car, crossed Biffle before the start/finish line. As a result, NASCAR cited a reasonable speed limit and no passing under caution to declare Biffle as the winner.
Speaking with Shannon Spake of NASCAR, Bowyer recalled how NASCAR officials elected former Roush Fenway Racing driver Biffle as the winner. Bowyer said:
"I won that damn race, I won the race it should have been my trophy. Greg Biffle cheated me out of it. He ran out of gas clearly. You go back from any camera angle they ever show, you can clearly see he's out of gas, didn't hold pace car speed, pulls off into the infield because he wasn't going to physically make it across the finish line and they dubbed him the winner." Clint Bowyer picks Joe Gibbs Racing driver as his top pick amongst his final 4 contenders
In the aforementioned interview, Shannon Spake also asked Clint Bowyer for his top contenders for the Championship 4 race at Phonix Raceway. His pick included a driver who previously won Kansas with a historic finish, Jos Gibbs Racing drivers on a maiden title run, and a surprise Team Penske driver chasing his third championship.
The NASCAR driver turned commentator Clint Bowyer said:
"Listen to me very carefully, Christopher Bell's very quiet, We all know that quiet interviews, quiet on the racetrack, quietly gets those results, quietly in a championship for almost every single time. That being said, I said the beginning of the year it's Christopher Bell's year. He's gonna quietly win this championship and everybody's gonna go, 'Where the hell did that come from?'." [8:45]
"Kyle Larson is who he's [Bell] gonna have to beat. Somehow, someway, I don't even want to say it but Denny Hamlin's probably gonna be a part of that four and then I think there's gonna be a surprise. It's gonna be Joey Logano. Same guy that gets it done every single time out of nowhere, where did he come from now he wins a championship and drives off into the sunset," added Bowyer.
