Bagging the fifth victory of the season wasn't the only feat that Corey Heim pulled off on Friday's CRC Brakleen 175. As of today, the 22-year-old driver has 10 career wins in just 55 starts, making him the youngest driver in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series history to have amassed 10 career wins.
Corey Heim drives the No. 11 Toyota full-time for TRICON Garage. In 2022, Heim wheeled the No. 52 Toyota for Kyle Busch Motorsports on a part-time schedule.
That very year, Heim's first career victory came at Atlanta Motor Speedway, driving for the multi-time Cup Series champion, Kyle Busch. Heim made his Cup Series debut as a replacement for Legacy Motor Club speedster, Erik Jones, in April 2024.
Joseph Srigley, managing editor at TobyChristie.com, reported Corey Heim's achievement on X (formerly Twitter) and said,
"With his victory in Friday's#CRCBrakleen175 at @PoconoRaceway, @CoreyHeim_ (at the age of 22Y, 0M, 7D) becomes the youngest 10-time winner in #NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series history."
Even when the race resumed following a 24-minute halt due to the rain, Heim managed to pack speed in his car and grabbed the lead. Besides the win, Corey Heim swept the stages and took home 60 race points alongside 7 playoff points. As reported by On3, Heim has 31 playoff points,11 playoff points above Christian Eckes, who holds the top spot in the regular season point standings.
Corey Heim credits the bond with his crew chief for the win
When Corey Heim concluded Stage 2 as the leader, Eckes, Daniel Dye, Grant Enfinger, and Tyler Ankrum were towing him closely. When almost the entire field committed to their respective pit stalls, ThorSport Racing driver, Jake Garcia, opted to stay out. This had him start the last stage as the leader.
However, that one pit stop was all that Heim needed. With 34 laps to go, NASCAR waved the green flag. 10 laps later, Rajah Caruth and Connor Mosack brought out another yellow. Right at that moment, Heim passed Garcia, who was trying his best to hold on to the lead.
When the race resumed after the rain with three laps to go, Heim was still leading. During a post-race interview with FOX Sports 1, he recalled his dominant performance and said that none of that would have been possible if his crew chief Scott Zipadeli hadn't decided to pit before the red flag came out. He said (as quoted by FrontStretch)
"(Scott and I) have had such a close bond and he does such a phenomenal job giving me fast Safelite Toyota TRD Pros every week,” Heim said. “This week wasn’t any different. This thing was badass. I’ve got a badass crew and a badass truck week in and week out."
“So proud of these guys. Can’t say enough about them. Five wins, it’s something I never thought I’d achieve in a single season. But here we are and we’ve got many more to go," the Marietta native said.
Corey Heim now looks forward to his next race at the Indianapolis Raceway Park on July 19. Catch Heim in action exclusively on FOX Sports 1. Fans can also listen to radio updates on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
