Corey LaJoie has further expressed his views on his incident involving Kyle Busch at a stage three restart in Pocono. The Spire Motorsports driver turned into the left rear of the #8 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, leading to a race-ending incident for Kyle Busch, adding to his struggles this season.

LaJoie, who pilots the #7 Chevy, competes full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series. In a post-race interview with NASCAR, LaJoie had discussed the incident in detail, explaining his reasons for attempting the second overtake. He went on to say that he wouldn't apologize for the incident, and believed that Busch would have done the same, had he been in LaJoie's position.

In a recent interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, LaJoie further elaborated on the incident at Pocono last weekend. He said (via a post on SiriusXM's X handle):

"I've been getting poked and prodded by my team about being more aggressive on restarts [...] I was gonna merge in behind him, and unfortunately wiped out a bunch of cars in the process. That's not the outcome that I wanted, I have come this far in my driving career by generally racing pretty clean."
"I've never been the kind of guy to just wreck people on purpose, you cut me a break, I'm gonna cut you a break, but now, the Cup Series does not race like that [...] So it's been a little bit of an adjustment for me to just turn up the selfishness meter, or the give-and-take model, where you had a little bit of a give-and-take with the old car. This car there's all take," LaJoie added.

Corey LaJoie was under investigation by NASCAR for the incident at Pocono, which could have possibly led to a penalty against the #7 driver. But recently, NASCAR clarified that Lajoie will not be sanctioned for the on-track incident with Kyle Busch.

The early retirement of the former Cup Series champion resulted in a P32 finish for the #8 team. Meanwhile, LaJoie crossed the finish line in P19 at The Great American Getaway 400.

"Didn't hear anything from the driver" - Senior VP Elton Sawyer comments on Corey LaJoie's penalty decision

There was a lot of speculation about Corey LaJoie's intentions behind making contact with Kyle Busch at Pocono, but from NASCAR's point of view, he did nothing wrong.

NASCAR's Senior Vice President of Competition, Elton Sawyer, clarified on Tuesday that Corey Lajoie won't be given a penalty for the incident. Sawyer commented on the decision to let LaJoie off, saying (via NBC Sports):

“You listen to the in-car audio on (LaJoie’s radio), you don’t hear anything from the driver. There’s some comments made by the crew chief and spotter, neither one of them is driving the car… So didn’t hear anything from (the driver)."

Moreover, Sawyer intends to have a conversation with LaJoie about this incident, but as far as penalties are concerned, the #7 driver is safe.
