Dale Earnhardt Jr. supports Brad Keselowski’s “controversial take” on his social media ahead of the Iowa Corn 350 race. NASCAR is currently gearing up for the inaugural Cup Series race at Iowa Speedway this Sunday.
Iowa Speedway has previously hosted NASCAR Xfinity Series and Truck Series events in the past. However, the 17th Cup Series race for the 2024 season will be the first-time Cup Series car race at the 0.8-mile short track.
RFK Racing driver Brad Keselowski recently took to X to share his "controversial" opinion ahead of the race. He believes that there would be multiple passes at the Iowa Speedway unlike the unpopular opinion leading into the race. The #6 Ford driver said:
"Controversial take: I think the track will be really good for passing tomorrow,"
Dale Earnhardt Jr. instantly seconded Keselowski’s view in his reply saying:
"Xfinity race was better in that regard than I expected," he wrote.
JR Motorsports co-owner, Dale Jr. believes that the recent Xfinity Series race at Iowa was better in terms of the quality of the race. Interestingly, JRM's full-time Xfinity driver, Sam Mayer emerged victorious in an overtime finish at Iowa by 0.146 seconds.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. reacts to the persistent short-track problems
Two-time Daytona 500 winner Dale Earnhardt Jr. believes that tires could be a solution to problems surrounding the short-track issues.
In a recent conversation with FOX Sports' Bob Pockrass, the 49-year-old Dale Jr. said:
"We can certainly learn a lot by messing with a tire and Goodyear seems to be willing to be a bit aggressive with the tire."
"They(NASCAR) did learn from it. And I think the drivers are open-minded and have given a lot of great input and feedback on what they're feeling with the tires as they start to change the compound. And so I'm hoping that Goodyear can continue race by race to push the envelope on a softer compound and a tire that will give us the racing that we want." Dale Jr. said.
However, Dale Jr. has been critical of the short-track packages, which involve fixed tire sets, engine power, and aerodynamics. This was introduced as a result of the safety quotient on the short tracks. After Goodyear's introduction to tire compounds at the All-Star Race earlier this season, Dale Jr. believes that it provided NASCAR with some insights.
