JR Motorsports owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. has signed two Trackhouse Racing drivers, Ross Chastain and Shane van Gisbergen, to make select NASCAR Xfinity Series starts in the 2025 season. JR Motorsports announced on Thursday (January 9) that Chastain and Van Gisbergen will race in a combined nine Xfinity races this season.

NASCAR Cup Series competitors Ross Chastain and Shane van Gisbergen will drive the #9 Chevrolet Camaro, a fifth part-time entry of Dale Jr.’s team. Chastain will make five starts, whereas SVG will race in four races for the championship-winning organization.

SVG will pilot the entry four times throughout the season, starting with the road course event at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City (June 14), followed by the Chicago Street Course (July 5), Sonoma Raceway (July 12), and Watkins Glen International (August 9).

The 35-year-old New Zealand native shifted to full-time racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series last year and earned three wins, 3 poles, and 10 top-10 finishes in his rookie season. In the 2025 season, he will compete full-time in the Cup Series behind the wheel of the #88 Chevrolet ZL1 for Trackhouse Racing.

Speaking about getting more time in stock car racing, here’s what SVG in a team release said:

“I’m trying to get as much experience as I can. JR Motorsports is one of the top teams and won the championship with Justin Allgaier. I can’t wait to get started.”

“I think there is a lot of benefit to getting seat time on Saturdays in the Xfinity Series” – Ross Chastain

Ross Chastain’s prolific 2025 schedule will include five Xfinity Series races, which start with the season’s first road course race at Circuit of The Americas (March 1), with additional runs at Darlington Raceway (April 5), Nashville Superspeedway (May 31), Dover Motor Speedway (July 19), and Iowa Speedway (August 2).

Expressing his feelings on joining JRM for select Xfinity races and getting more time in the Xfinity Series before Sunday’s Cup Series races, Chastain said:

“I think there is a lot of benefit to getting seat time on Saturdays in the Xfinity Series. Getting an opportunity to do it with JR Motorsports is too good an opportunity to pass up. I know every time I climb in their Chevrolets, we will have a chance to win.”

Ross Chastain and Shane van Gisbergen will join Carson Kvapil, Justin Allgaier, Sammy Smith, and Trackhouse Racing development driver Connor Zilisch as teammates during their respective races.
