Since retiring from the NASCAR Cup Series, Danica Patrick has ventured into several different arenas. She has been in the news most recently for actively supporting Donald Trump in the US presidential elections.
Speaking this week at the TPUSA American Fest, she reminisced about the "turning point" from her last appearance at the fest last year. In December 2023, Patrick attended the AmFest with her sister and later posted some pictures of the events on her social media.
In her speech this week, Patrick said she faced "backlash" for the post, which she found "wildly shocking." After Charlie Kirk, founder and CEO of TPUSA, shared a snippet of the speech on X (formerly Twitter), Danica Patrick expressed her gratitude to him and wrote:
"This time last year… was the - turning point! Thank you Charlie!"
In her speech, Patrick talked about the moment from last year and said (via RSBN),
"I said something along the lines of, you know, 'America Fest, Am fest. I love this country, seems like the place to be.' And the backlash was just wildly shocking to me. Don't you guys find it amazing that you can say, 'I love this country,' and it means you're Republican, that you can wear an American flag and it means you're Republican? And the work isn't done until that's true."
The former NASCAR Cup Series driver also highlighted that she has lived in several countries, including three years in England as a professional race car driver and that the USA is "amazing."
She said that the reaction to the post ticked her off and "lit a real fire" and led to one of "funnest years" she's had.
Danica Patrick opened up on her reasons for backing Donald Trump
The first woman to win an IndyCar series race, Danica Patrick supported DOnald Trump in this year's US presidential elections. Speaking in an interview shortly before voting took place, she spoke about her reasons for backing Republican Party leader Donald Trump in the US Presidential elections.
She said that being a professional race car driver, Patrick had been busy establishing a career in motorsports and was thus unable to "understand politics" during that time. In a conversation with Jesse Watters, Danica Patrick said,
"I'm passionate because it feels like voting for Donald Trump is like the vote of reason. It's like the rational, reasonable choice. I feel like most of all, though, what this country could be if he gets into office with all of the amazing, brilliant people that are supporting him, I feel like it could not only be make America great again, but make America greater than it's ever been" [01:59].
Patrick set multiple records after recording the highest finish by a woman in the Daytona 500. She secured seven top-ten finishes in 191 starts under Stewart Haas Racing's banner in the NASCAR Cup Series.
