Trackhouse Racing driver Daniel Suarez recently shared his perspective on the collision with Kyle Larson at Iowa Speedway. The incident, which took place during a restart early in the final stage, took Larson out of contention for the race win.

On lap 219 of 350, Larson was racing Brad Keselowski and Daniel Suarez on a restart. He squeezed between the drivers, taking them three wide in Turn 4. He couldn't pull off the move as Suarez got loose, and tapped his car, causing him to lose control and hit the barriers.

Daniel Suarez took responsibility for the contact with Kyle Larson. However, he explained that he was anticipating both drivers to be much closer to the wall. After reviewing the incident, he suggested that both Keselowski on the outside and Larson pinched him down to the corner.

Speaking to Bob Pockrass post-race, the #99 Trackhouse Racing driver said:

"Honestly, during the race I was so confused, I didn’t know what happened. I didn’t know if I went up or he came down. I just saw the replay for the very first time, and I noticed that the #6 (Keselowski) was the one that was on the outside, he had like a quarter of a car from the wall because he was trying to pinch down the #5 (Larson), and then the #5 had another quarter of a car to the #6, trying to pinch me down, and I was expecting those two guys to be closer to the wall like everyone else."

The Mexican driver acknowledged his role in the contact with Larson but reiterated that he expected both drivers to be closer to the outside barriers.

"I mean, I’m definitely … I’m the one that made contact with the 5, and I take responsibility for that, but I felt like they were lower than I was expecting."

Kyle Larson regrets his three-wide move on Daniel Suarez

Larson was the fastest driver on track in the first two stages, with second and first-place finishes, respectively. However, his ambitious move in the final stage ruined his chances of walking away as the winner of the inaugural Cup race at Iowa.

The #5 Hendrick Motorsports driver regrets taking Daniel Suarez and Brad Keselowski three-wide, admitting that he could have easily overtaken them if had been more patient.

"I haven't seen the replay yet, but I guess I could have not gone to the middle (lane) and been more patient knowing how fast my car was and knowing who I was around. I wanted to get as many cars as I could in the beginning of that run (from the back of the field). It probably just ended up biting me," he told Bob Pockrass.

While Larson was classified 34th, Daniel Suarez secured a ninth-place finish ahead of Brad Keselowski. Although Saurez's result marked his third top-10 finish of the season, he has already secured his playoff berth.
