Denny Hamlin shared his reaction to 2024 NASCAR Cup Series champion Joey Logano's picture holding cards from the popular board game 'Monopoly.' Focusing on the latter, Hamlin called the picture "perfect," notably, his co-owned team 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports are in an anti-trust lawsuit with NASCAR.
The lawsuit was filed after NASCAR gave the teams a deadline to sign the Charter Agreement for the 2025 season, and all teams except for these two signed it. The two teams later signed the lawsuit, alleging NASCAR of holding a monopoly of power and control over the Charters.
Reacting to Joey Logano's picture, Hamline wrote:
"Monopoly cards. Perfect"
This reaction could be seen by some as a sarcastic jibe towards the lawsuit 23XI and Front Row Motorsports filed in October 2024 against NASCAR, alleging it of monopolistic practices.
After the first hearing in Charlotte last week, 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports filed an appeal on the denial of the primary injunction. This is aimed at allowing both teams to continue racing in NASCAR in the 2025 season as charter teams. The notice read:
“Notice is hereby given that plaintiffs 2311 Racing, LLC (“23XI”), d/b/a 23XI Racing, and Front Row Motorsports, Inc. (“Front Row” and together with 23XI, “Plaintiffs”) hereby appeal to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit from the Court’s Order Denying Without Prejudice Plaintiffs’ Motion For Preliminary Injunction (Dkt. 42), entered in this action on November 8, 2024, together with all underlying orders, rulings, and findings.”
Denny Hamlin reveals 23XI Racing's participation in the 2025 season is "TBD"
Not signing the Charter Agreement for the upcoming season and being in a lawsuit against NASCAR has put 23XI Racing under a little threat as its participation in the 2025 season might be under question.
Denny Hamlin delivered a concerning verdict in Phoenix, discussing the lawsuit, the first hearing, and his team's participation in the 2025 NASCAR season. He mentioned that he was "pleased" with the ruling, and mentioned how the lawsuit could move forward.
"The first part is, we’re obviously pleased with the ruling that the judge sees merits in the case," Denny Hamlin told the media at Phoenix. "He’s going to move forward to expedite it and expedite the discovery side of it, which is a reverse from what he had before. Obviously, judging on it without prejudice and obviously giving us an opportunity to refile once the situation changes because he knows that things will change over the next few months. Obviously, he understands the complexity of it and obviously understands that this situation is fluid, and we obviously could see some pretty bad harm coming up."
However, when the media asked him about the team's participation in the 2025 season, he said:
"I think it’s all TBD. There’s certain things that we’re going to have to navigate so I hope so."
Denny Hamlin owns the team with NBA legend Michael Jordan. The team has been racing since the 2021 season. The team has two Toyota Camrys running in the Cup Series, piloted by Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick. The latter was in the Championship 4 this season at Phoenix.
