NASCAR Cup Series driver Denny Hamlin is enjoying his time off from racing after the 2024 season. He recently attended a college football game, as he cheered on Ohio State University. A fan shared a clip of Hamlin supporting the Buckeyes.
Hamlin enjoyed all the proceedings, from the pre-match cheerleading to the final whistle. The Ohio State Buckeyes won the game against Indiana Hoosiers with a difference of 13 points.
Hamlin was on the sidelines during the Ohio State cheerleaders' performance, and a fan's post on X (formerly Twitter) showed him enjoying the moment. The post's caption read:
Denny repping Ohio State??? Hell yea that’s why he’s the GOAT
The Hoosiers led the first period of the game with seven points. However, the Buckeyes switched gears after the beginning of the second period and dominated their opponent throughout the rest of the game. The team stands third in the standings with ten wins and one loss.
Ohio State University was established 154 years ago in 1870 and is located in 1870. The university is spread around 1,655 acres and has more than 60,000 students. In 2015, the college's football team claimed its first-ever College Football Playoff Nationals Championship by defeating Oregon with 42 points.
After the Buckeyes won the game, the Cup Series driver and his buddies celebrated the win at a club. The club welcomed Denny Hamlin in style, bringing out the illuminating signboard with Hamlin's initials on it followed by "Ohio."
Denny Hamlin was left shocked by Joe Gibbs' decision for the 2025 season
Joe Gibbs Racing on Friday announced that Denny Hamlin will have a new Crew Chief for the 2025 season. The team appointed Chris Gayle as the new Crew Chief for the #11 Toyota Camry. Hamlin said he was "shocked" by the decision.
After deciding to promote Hamlin's former crew chief Chris Gabehart to competition director, the team will sign a deal with Gayle as the new crew chief of Hamlin's #11 Camry. JGR team owner Joe Gibbs said the changes will prove beneficial for the team and will make it stronger for the next season.
The decision was made after JGR failed to clinch a title this season despite having all four drivers in the playoffs.
Speaking about the decision, Denny Hamlin said (via Bob Pockgrass of Fox Sports):
"I mean I certainly was shocked by it. That's all. There's...they've gotta, they gotta do what's best for the company. And I think that they're looking for an improvement on performance on the #54 and they're looking for an overall performance for all the teams. Because, you know, we certainly hadn't won the amount of races as an organization is what we should have" [0:17]
JGR finished fifth in the team standings after Denny Hamlin, Christopher Bell, Martin Truex Jr., and Ty Gibbs, all qualified for the playoffs but failed to secure a spot for the Championship 4 race at Phoenix Raceway.
