Martin Truex Jr. has been involved in the NASCAR series for over two decades and comes from a family of racers. The 2017 Cup Series champion is the son of Martin Truex Sr., a former driver in the Busch North Series.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver Truex Jr. was born to Truex Sr. and Linda Treux in Trenton, New Jersey but grew up in Mayetta. He also has a brother, Ryan Truex, who competes part-time in the Xfinity Series for JGR.

Born on March 24, 1958, the New Jersey native, Truex Sr., competed for a few races in the NASCAR Xfinity Series from 1989 to 1994. He also competed as a local in the Busch North Series for almost nine years and secured his only triumph in the 1994 New Hampshire Motor Speedway race.

According to a post by Nascarman_rr on X(formerly Twitter), this race was streamed on television and was reportedly the highest-paying event of that year:

Despite his love for racing, the #19 JGR driver's father felicitated Truex Jr.'s motorsports career and became the biggest influence in the Cup Series champion's life. Later, Truex Jr's younger brother, Ryan, followed in his footsteps and secured three Xfinity wins as a part-time driver.

"That was my goal the whole time,": Martin Truex Sr. reflects on his sons becoming professional racers

Speaking to the New York Times in 2016, Martin Truex Sr. opened up on being a proud father to successful racers in the stock car divisions. The #19 JGR driver's father believed he was content with his brief racing career and how providing enough resources for his sons was enough to succeed.

Truex Sr. spoke about how his son the former Cup Series champion became a better man on the racetrack.

"He’s (Truex Jr.) very well liked in the sport. He’s a gentleman. His attitude is level all the time — doesn’t get too excited. I’m happy with the person he is. Where he is in the sport is a bonus, really."

Furthermore, the 66-year-old former Busch Series driver reflected on how getting the right resources to succeed in the racing world was one of the primary objective for his kids.

"Back in those days, kids never really got an opportunity unless they had a big checkbook. My thing was that if I could provide him with the right equipment, I thought he could be very successful," Truex Sr. said.
"I’m having a better time watching my kids grow into it and become professional athletes. That was my goal the whole time. I had a successful business. I was content just having a good time racing," he added.

Truex Sr. is currently one of the owners of a commercial fishing company known as Sea Watch International. Meanwhile, his son, Truex Jr. is gearing up for the last couple of races before his full-time retirement in the NASCAR Cup Series.

The coming three races will be the final starts for the full-time JGR driver Truex. However, according to reports, plans are in motion for him to compete in the 2025 Daytona 500 and a few other races.
