Former NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon is arguably one of the finest NASCAR drivers of all time. Gordon has achieved everything in his NASCAR career, but his ambitious spirit has also shone off beyond racing. Among his business ventures, car dealerships stand out as a significant part of his post-racing career.

Yes, NACAR legend Jeff Gordon owns a car dealership. He opened his Chevrolet dealership in 1998 in Wilmington, North Carolina, called Jeff Gordon Chevrolet.

This dealership started when he was competing in NASCAR behind the wheel of a #24 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports. It is one of the most well-known Chevy dealerships in the United States and has been the cornerstone of Gordon’s business endeavors since its inception.

In addition to his involvement in the dealership, it is also connected to his long-term association with Chevrolet, in which he raced throughout his NASCAR career with Hendrick Motorsports.

With Gordon’s name attached to the dealership, it attracted both car enthusiasts and NASCAR fans to buy a vehicle from the NASCAR legend.

According to the Gordon Chevrolet website, the dealership has been located on 15 acres and has grown to be one of the crown jewels in the Hendrick Automotive Group, receiving the highest recognition in the field of dealership.

Jeff Gordon Chevrolet won the prestigious GM Dealer Of The Year Award in 2014, becoming one of the first GM Certified Green Dealers and being named GM Certified Used Sales Leader for 10 years in a row.

When HMS boss told Jeff Gordon to stay with the team

Hendrick Motorsports (HMS) owner Rick Hendrick once told four-time NASCAR champion to stay with the team forever during challenging times within the organization. Speaking with Kevin Harvick, Jeff Gordon recalled Hendrick telling him he wanted to stay within the organization forever after the 1998 season.

Discussing his involvement with HMS during Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour podcast, Gordon said:

“It goes early back to Hendrick Motorsports and it goes back to when we just won our third championship, 1998, it’s [an] amazing year, Rick was sick… Ray Everham got his Dodge [team].” [5:15]
“Rick says I want you to be here forever, and so that came with some equity and just more involvement and a lifetime contract." [6:16]

Gordon competed for Hendrick Motorsports from 1992 to 2016 in the NASCAR Cup Series, clinching four titles (1995, 1997, 1988, and 2001). The 53-year-old California native, who currently serves as the vice chairman of HMS, signed a lifetime contract with the team in 1999.
