Chase Briscoe's recent social media post attracted a wave of negative comments from Kyle Busch fans after the two drivers were involved in an on-track incident at Kansas Speedway. The incident occurred while Busch was on course to secure his first Cup Series victory of the season.
Briscoe shared an adorable post on X, featuring his three-year-old son, Brooks Briscoe, practicing on the iRacing simulator. In the heartwarming clip, Brooks can be seen gripping the large steering wheel with his tiny hands, giving sprint cars on dirt tracks a go.
"He’s not even 3 years old yet and already begging me to get on @iRacing. 🫣" The caption on Briscoe's post read.
While most comments on Chase Briscoe's post appreciated Brooks' interest in iRacing and dirt racing, Kyle Busch fans voiced their frustration. They blamed Briscoe for costing "The Rowdy" his first victory of the season.
The incident occurred with 32 laps to go when Busch was in the lead with Ross Chastain close behind. Busch was trying to lap Briscoe with a high line, but the #14 Stewart Haas Racing driver tried to squeeze the leader, taking air off the nose of his #8 Chevy, which caused the leader to lose control and spin out.
One popular comment on Briscoe's recent post referenced the recent incident:
"Does he take Kyle Busch’s nose off on that too?"
Another Busch fan suggested Briscoe teach his young kid how to leave a lane on the outside. The comment read:
"Teach him to leave a lane for someone on his outside"
Another comment on similar lines read:
"Make sure to show him how to give someone a lane on the outside!" the comment read.
Here are a few other comments praising the three-year-old Brooks:
"Looks like he already is doing awesome !!! He is going to pick up on it quick" an X user suggested Brooks would pick up the family tradition very soon.
"And doing a fine job of driving it! Looks like the next generation of Briscoe racers is getting a great start!" one comment read.
"insane how he’s already better than Corey Lajoie at 2 years of age" another user commented.
Kyle Busch elaborates on Chase Briscoe not leaving space
In yet another frustrating outcome, Kyle Busch lamented the missed opportunity at Kansas. The veteran Richard Childress Racing driver insisted that Briscoe should have left some space on the high line, and let the leaders race.
Busch stated that in the past, lapped traffic would not interfere with the leaders; however, he insists the etiquette has changed over the years. He said (via motorsport.com):
"I am sure he was racing to stay on the lead lap with whoever was in front of him there. Granted they have a race to run, but back in the old days when you were under 30 to go or whatever it was, lap traffic would kind of lay over and give you a lane and let the leaders race."
"I just wasn’t getting that, so I tried to force my hand into getting that and get to his outside, and for whatever reason, it just gave all the air in all the wrong places and I spun out.”
Kyle Busch previously lost a race win to Chase Briscoe at Darlington and continues to search for a victory this season to extend his record 19-year winning streak.
