NASCAR drivers including Bubba Wallace have shared their marriage proposal stories in a video uploaded by NASCAR on NBC on X. It features Austin Dillon, Chase Briscoe, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., and Chris Buescher, apart from the 23XI Racing driver, fetching over 14,300 views.
Wallace recalled his conversation with his wife Amanda's sister before he proposed:
"I remember talking to her sister before it happened. And she was like excited but she was like, 'Hey, just make sure you say something. Don't just freeze and say, 'Will you marry me?'' And I'm like, 'Oh yeah, that's the easy part. Alright.'" [0:05]
"I just sat there and did the exact opposite of what her sister said, and I froze and didn't say a word. I didn't ask if she would marry me, but I just had the terrified deer-in-the-headlights look," Bubba Wallace added.
Wallace proposed to his girlfriend, Amanda Carter on July 30, 2021. The duo married on December 31, 2022, at the end of the Cup Series season.
Bubba Wallace shares how his priorities in life changed after marriage
After his son, Becks Hayden was born, Bubba Wallace spoke about how his priorities changed over the years. His wife, Amanda gave birth to the couple's first child on September 29 this year. He said (via Motorcycle Sports):
“For the last 22 years, it’s been all racing. Marriage came, that was a great head-to-head there of, you know, showing up to be the best husband you can be and provide for your family then. Well, now you got a little one here.”
While the 31-year-old driver had a positive year in terms of family, it was the opposite on the racing front. The 23XI Racing driver failed to claim a victory this season and qualify for the playoffs.
Wallace finished the season in 18th place with 878 points. He clinched six Top 5s, 14 Top 10s, a Stage win, and led 139 laps. His average start position for the 2024 Cup Series season was 14.861, and his average finish position was 15.278.
