Ahead of the Round of 12 opening battle, NASCAR officials sat with the Cup Series drivers to discuss a potential change in the cars for the Talladega race. However, among the undisclosed proposals, one could hinder their playoff run.

Adrenaline is racking up as Round of 12 is set to kick off at Kansas Speedway, today, at 3:00 PM ET. The three-race slate of the second round of playoffs includes the 1.5-mile tri-oval, the 2.66-mile Talladega Superspeedway, and the finale at Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course.

While there's no change in the NextGen package for the Round of 12 opener, NASCAR, according to Bob Pockrass, discussed potential alterations only for the Superspeedway race.

Talladega is known for its high-speed drafting through the long straightaways that cascade into a pileup, speed traps leading to the cars letting loose, and high-banked turns that make it challenging for the drivers to steer through the turns without chaos.

No decision has been made so far but NASCAR is "apparently" planning for an air deflector "of sorts" to be attached to the right end of the windshield, as stated by Bob Pockrass. It will prevent the NextGen Cup Series cars from going too much to the outside as the air from the right will deflect and push the car toward the inside lines.

However, the drivers believe this 'one change' could hinder visibility, as the rivals charging from the outside line won't be properly visible which could lead to a wreck. Moreover, an overtake from the right with less room might result in a crash due to low visibility. Enhanced visuals are primal to ensure safety at high-speed tracks like Talladega.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) Pockrass shared the information about the meeting at his disposal. He wrote.

"NASCAR talked to drivers at their meeting today about potential changes to cars just for Talladega. They said no decisions final. Drivers mentioned one change could potentially impact visibility as NASCAR apparently considering air deflector of sorts on right side of windshield," Pockrass wrote.

NASCAR will likely announce the changes (if any) after the playoff race at Kansas Speedway wraps up.

A look at the NASCAR drivers who are in the playoff bubble entering the Kansas Speedway

The playoff opener race will witness Christopher Bell bring the field to green. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver is quite safe, at the moment, as he's placed second, behind Kyle Larson. However, the upcoming 400-miler will have four drivers below the cutline- Austin Cindric, Daniel Suarez, Alex Bowman, and Chase Briscoe.

Unlike his regular season with three top-10s, Cindric posted two consecutive P10 finishes in playoff races at Atlanta and Watkins Glen. However, he fell to a 13th-place finish at Bristol. The Team Penske driver is placed ninth in the playoffs with a 4-point deficit.

Suarez's win by 0.003 seconds over Ryan Blaney at the regular season Atlanta race secured his playoff berth. Moreover, he stood as runner-up in the playoff opener. However, his P13 and P31 finishes at Watkins Glen and Bristol, respectively, have sent him below the playoff line in tenth place and is shy of six points.

Bowman is the only Hendrick Motorsports driver in the bubble. He came fifth, 18th, and ninth in three Round of 16 races and is 11th in the standings, with a 7-point deficit. He ties with Briscoe, in terms of the deficit, but the SHR driver is last in the standings.
