The 2024 season of racing will see former NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson not only behind the wheel of Hendrick Motorsports' #5 entry in the Cup Series but also the 31-year-old driver's debut in the famed Indy 500.
Kyle Larson is set to undertake 'double duty' this season as he prepares to compete in both NASCAR and the NTT IndyCar Series races on Memorial Day. With a recent open test session seeing him adapt well to the open-wheeled nature of the IndyCars, Marcus Ericsson, current IndyCar driver for Andretti Global, spoke favorably of the full-time NASCAR driver.
Ericsson elaborated on what he saw in Larson's technique behind the wheel as a former winner of the famed iconic 500-mile-long race at The Brickyard. He said in an interview with NewsNation's YouTube channel:
"The thing with Kyle is he is one of the most talented drivers in the world. I expect him to get used to it very quickly. We had a test here a couple of weeks ago and he was already second fastest. He will be right in the mix. I expect him to be hard to beat but it’s great for our sport, in general. He comes over and puts even more spotlight on the Indy 500." [2:52]
It remains to be seen how Kyle Larson will adapt to a totally different genre of motorsports come Sunday, May 26.
