Amid the Joe Gibbs Racing leadership shuffle, Ty Gibbs recently shared his thoughts on Tyler Allen taking up the crew chief role for the No. 54 Toyota Camry. Allen was previously the crew chief of #20 Toyota in the Xfinity Series with whom he secured eight victories in the 2023 season.
Allen will replace Chris Gayle, who has been given the reins of Denny Hamlin's #11. This transition happened on the heels of Chris Gabehart, Hamlin's former crew chief, being promoted as the Competition director of the Huntersville, North Carolina-based organization. Additionally, Jason Ratcliff will take on the role of Taylor Gray's #54 car in the Xfinity Series.
In a recent social media post, Gibbs, the 22-year-old grandson of Joe Gibbs, shared his thoughts on his Instagram handle. He wrote:
"Excited for both futures of the #54 teams"
In the 2022 season, Ty Gibbs clinched his maiden Xfinity Series championship and raced part-time for 23XI Racing. Moreover, the Charlotte, North Carolina native finished his second full-time NASCAR season with JGR and was placed P15 in the final driver standings.
"A dream of mine": Ty Gibbs' crew chief reflects on his new role at JGR
Tyler Allen opened up on being presented with the opportunity to lead the #54 Toyota team in the Cup Series. He has previously worked under championship-winning crew chief Adam Stevens.
After being a member of Joe Gibbs Racing for almost 10 years, Allen deemed this chance to be a "dream" and said (via Racer.com):
"It’s an honor to be named crew chief for Ty Gibbs and the 54 team as we head into the 2025 season. This opportunity has been a dream of mine since starting here at JGR 10 years ago, and I’m thankful for the support and guidance I’ve received from my mentors, teammates, and everyone along the way. Ty has shown a lot of speed and potential the last two years, and I look forward to building on that experience to get the No.54 car in victory lane."
Ty Gibbs made it to the first round of playoffs based on points in his second Cup season. He also managed eight top-fives and 12 top-10 finishes in 36 starts this season.
With a promising talent, Gibbs will be back in action for one of the strongest NASCAR organizations in the inaugural February 2025 Daytona 500 race.
