Allmendinger and his wife welcomed their firstborn Aero James on September 7, 2023. Their son was diagnosed with craniosynostosis — a condition where the bones of a baby’s skull fuse prematurely before the brain has fully developed. After undergoing surgery at three months old, he is undergoing helmet therapy.
Celebrating his first birthday, Aero experienced the thrill of speed behind the wheel of a mini Lamborghini Aventador, sharing the ride with the family's French bulldog, Xena. Tara Allmendinger shared the adorable video on Instagram on October 5 with the caption:
"Fast starts and breaking hearts. 🏎️♥️ Making Craniosynostosis cool since 2023."
Tara Allmendinger also shared clips of her husband assembling the toy car for their son, and Aero James getting a feel for the steering wheel for the first time. She captioned the video with the famous catchphrase:
"Maybe they’re born with it. Maybe it’s Valvoline."
AJ Allmendinger's wife has been vocal about craniosynostosis, sharing her experiences as a parent and raising awareness about the congenital condition. She founded the P.U.R.P.L.E Ribbon Project to support other families facing similar challenges.

Tara Allmendinger recently shared a heartfelt tribute to the victims of Hurricane Helene, offering her thoughts and prayers to those affected by the devastating disaster. In a recent Instagram post, she wrote:
"Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those affected by hurricane Helene. As I continue to comprehend the impact of this tragedy and find ways to help, I want to share that our hearts are with you. Don’t lose your faith. ❤️"
AJ Allmendinger's wife also provided a safety update on their situation in Denver, North Carolina, saying that everything was fine while acknowledging the unfortunate circumstances faced by their friends in Western North Carolina. She also mentioned the Allmendinger family's contributions, including donations of supplies and baby formula for those affected.
The entire NASCAR industry has banded together to help the victims of Hurricane Helene. Joe Gibbs Racing and Hendrick Motorsports assisted the recovery efforts with their helicopters. 23XI Racing donated $1 million while the Joey Logano Foundation pledged $250,000. Former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle has also been using his helicopter to assist those affected.
