Matt Tifft has shared an update on his health via social media following a recent violent attack. The former NASCAR driver was attacked violently with a kick to the head after he went to confront a rival driver during the ASA STARS National Tour in Ohio this weekend.
A bystander captured the entire incident on camera, and Tifft uploaded the entire scuffle on his X account. A few hours later, the 28-year-old shared another video on X (formerly Twitter) and provided an update on his condition.
"Everybody, just wanna say thank you for the support," Tift said in a video on X. "First off, I'm okay, nothing broken just got that (eye injury), wanted to address something from all the comments and people asking me if I'm going to press charges,"
"First of all, I went over there to confront the driver. I wasn't expecting a fight, that happens but what's a chicken sh*t move really is getting thrown on the ground and then somebody's coming up and kicking someone while they're on the ground and that's about as low as it gets," Tifft added.
Tifft went to confront the driver, Billy VanMeter, who took out multiple drivers during the Ohio race, including that of the former NASCAR man. Once he reached there, he was swiftly slammed to the ground and was kicked to the head by an unidentified man on the VanMeter team.
Matt Tifft revealed if he wanted to press charges against the assaulter
In the video, Matt Tifft discussed whether he wanted to press charges against his assaulter. Although he seemed indecisive in the video on X, the former NASCAR driver ultimately thought about pressing charges, describing the assaulter as dangerous.
"So, at the track, they asked me if I wanted to press charges, I initially said no, but looking back on it, I don't think I would press charges for myself," Tifft said. "But, what I don't like is the fact that series of Late Model racing, a lot of 13, 14, 15-year-old kids come up through there, and we don't need somebody like that in the pit area, who is dangerous and obviously something's wrong with him." Matt Tifft raced in NASCAR in the 2019 Cup Series season where he raked in 32 race starts to his name. Besides the Cup Series, the 28-year-old also took part in the NASCAR feeder series such as the Xfinity and Truck Series.
