The 2024 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series ended in a multi-truck pile-up in the championship race and Frankie Muniz, the driver of the #27 Ford truck, also got involved in the crash and left the scene in a serious condition.
The championship race was held at the Phoenix Raceway on November 8, 2024, and Ty Majeski won the title. The race was not smooth for everyone. Some of the drivers got collected in the crash that happened during the final stage in the 99th lap of the 150-lap race. Ty Majeski won stage 2 of the race and was leading the pack when the crash happened.
Majeski and Nick Sanchez were sparing for the lead to secure the championship, but Connor Mosack triggered the crash by hitting the wall on the 2nd turn, causing a multi-truck pile including Tyler Ankrum, Stefan Parsons, Frankie Muniz, Thad Moffitt, William Sawalich, Andres Perez de Lara, Spencer Boyd, and Stewart Friesen.
The crash resulted in a DNF for four drivers, including Frankie Muniz. NASCAR reporter and analyst Noah Lewis shared the clip of Muniz limping toward the ambulance on the track. He captioned the post:
"Hard hit for @frankiemuniz. He limps from his truck to the ambulance."
Frankie Muniz was also collected in a crash in stage one during lap 42. He made contact with William Sawalich and did a half spin in turn three. He finished in P34, along with Tyler Ankrum in P33 and William Sawalich in P32.
Frankie Muniz announces his full-time career in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for the 2025 season
Actor-turned-racer announced that he will compete full-time in the 2025 season with his new team. He inked a contract with Reaume Brothers Racing to race full-time in the Truck Series. He competed in the 2024 Xfinity Series as a part of a partial program for Joey Gase Racing.
Muniz didn't even finish in his first two races because of the lack of speed with the small group, and he reshifted his focus in the truck series. He also competed full-time in the ARCA Menards Series, and in 20 starts he earned 11 top-ten finishes. However, his journey has been quite bumpy.
In the Baptist Health 200 race at Homestead-Miami held on October 26, 2024, Frankie Muniz finished in P33 and qualified 31st out of 34 trucks on the grid. The latter shared his ultimate goal and plans as a full-time driver and said:
"I want to be the best, but realistically, the series is tough. There are a lot of good drivers and a lot of good teams, but I think if we could consistently be in the top 20, that would be a huge achievement for us." (via ESPN)
Frankie Muniz has been a race enthusiast for decades and even drove the pace car in the 2001 Daytona 500, where Dale Earnhardt Sr. passed away.
