The NASCAR team led by Gene Haas is gearing up for a technical alliance with RFK Racing for the 2025 campaign. Brad Keselowski is set to share his wit and knowledge with the newly formed Haas Factory Team.
It was born after Tony Stewart and Gene Haas, owner of Stewart-Haas Racing decided to shut down their NASCAR team. While Stewart hinted at venturing into other businesses, the 71-year-old Gene Haas decided to continue his involvement in NASCAR. HFT is set to field one Cup and two Xfinity Series charters beginning from the 2025 NASCAR season.
In a recent media interaction, HFT's president Custer announced that the reigning Xfinity Series champion Cole Custer will move up the rank and return to Cup Series, piloting the #41 Ford.
HFT president also elaborated on having a technical partnership with Keselowski, co-owner of RFK Racing. Custer said (6:49):
"We are starting to learn that the approach that we had and successes we enjoyed at SHR, we're using a different set of tools than the Next-Gen is offering. So that's candidly we're leaning on Brad and his group at RFK to add to what our knowledge base is and help us evolve.
"We're really excited about the leadership Brad's taken at RFK and the group they've got and we're a fit. we've had a number of meetings and we're we're aligned strategically. We feel there's resources that we can offer that can make their program stronger and vice versa." added Custer.
Custer claimed that the SHR campus would be retained, but they will let go of some cars and haulers by rule. HFT would also hold onto the infrastructure, servers and data in addition to the equipment.
"No intention of something that's not successful" - Joe Custer shares Gene Haas' stance
Gene Haas is the founder and president of Haas Automation, a machine tool manufacturer. He also owns a Formula 1 team, Haas F1 Team, and now a NASCAR team.
In the media conference, HFT president Custer talked about how they surveyed different drivers and their plan to aim for success by getting the culture right. He said (via Frontstretch):
"We looked at different drivers because Gene (Haas) has no intention of being part of something that's not successful or isn't pointed toward success. He's built a company and over the years that takes time he understands that but he wants to see improvement and people held accountable." (16:13)
"We've been able to do that in the Xfinity program and we're headed towards that with the Cup program for next year." Custer added (17:21).
As things stand, HFT has already made a deal with the 2023 Xfinity Champion and the current points leader in the 2024 Xfinity Series for the Cup Series ride. Moreover, Riley Herbst's future is uncertain as he eyes a Cup Series ride for the 2025 campaign.
