Richard Petty shared his thoughts on New Year’s resolutions in the most recent video on The Petty Family Racing YouTube channel. While doing so, the NASCAR legend also shed light on what he wants for the New Year.
Petty, also known as “The King” by NASCAR aficionados, is remembered for the unparalleled records that he set during his tenure as a driver. He won the most races in NASCAR history (200), picked up the most poles (123), and the most wins in a season (27 races won in 1967), to name a few. Some say that he’s even signed the most number of autographs, which amounts to at least a million.
Petty said that although he had never thought of making New Year’s resolutions, he knew that people who make them usually want something. And Petty wants the NASCAR Cup Series to kick off with the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway.
“I never thought about making New Year's resolutions,” said Richard Petty. “I guess the people that make them...I guess they're wanting something. You know what I mean? All we want is to get ready and go to Daytona.”
The race that Petty is so excited about is the 67th edition of the crown jewel event that held its inaugural run in 1959. Petty himself won the race seven times, again, the most by any driver.
Hendrick Motorsports driver William Byron is the defending winner of the race, which is scheduled for February 16 this year. Fans can watch the 500-miler on FOX Sports or listen to radio updates from 2:30 pm ET onwards.
Richard Petty’s son to continue departed son’s “legacy” in 2025
Richard Petty’s son and former NASCAR driver Kyle Petty felt that the Christmas and New Year holidays were the best times to give back. Spearheading the Kyle Petty Charity Ride across America since 1995, the 64-year-old NASCAR vet has been known to work extensively on the community's welfare from time to time.
The Kyle Petty Charity Ride is a motorcycle ride that is held annually to raise awareness and funds for Victory Junction, a non-profit charity organization based in North Carolina.
Through a post on X, the organizers of the Kyle Petty Charity Ride remembered Adam Petty, son of Kyle Petty and grandson of Richard Petty, who passed away in 2000. He was just 19 at the time.
Like his father, Adam was also known for his philanthropic endeavors. On that note, Kyle Petty Charity Ride said,
“The holidays are a time for giving, which always makes us think of Adam and his giving heart. ❤ Today and every day, we are proud to continue his legacy!”
As per reports, the charity ride has raised more than $22 million for Victory Junction since its inception. This year, the event will start from Traverse City, Michigan, and tour across nine states over the week, i.e., from May 3 to 9.
