A brief about the Ryan Blaney foundation that birthed within his family

Team Penske driver Ryan Blaney has been competing in the NASCAR Cup Series for almost 11 years. The son of former stock car driver Dave Blaney and the grandson of dirt track racer Lou Blaney started this foundation while in a conversation amongst his family.

Having a history of concussion symptoms and Alzheimer's disease within his family, Blaney in a conversation opened up on the reason for starting this foundation. He said (via Forbes):

"We wanted to do something that we had a personal connection with. My grandfather died of Alzheimer’s, passed away format at a fairly young age. Living through that—it’s a rough disease to see someone go through. So (we decided) let’s focus our efforts there. It’s also a frustrating disease because nobody really knows a whole lot about it."

Currently, the Ohio native is looking to win his second championship title. He has had a rollercoaster of performances in the playoffs so far. In his last five playoff starts, the #12 driver has two top-five finishes and two DNFs.

As things stand, he is placed sixth in the playoffs standings and has a cushion of 25 points above the cut-line.
