Joe Gibbs Racing driver Christopher Bell claims that the Cup Series will witness fierce competition amongst the playoff drivers heading into the final races of the season. This season is also witnessing a rare NASCAR stat.
For only the third time in the last ten years, the Championship 4 drivers from the previous season (Ryan Blaney, Kyle Larson, William Byron, Christopher Bell) are within the top 8 of the current season. Bell, who is second in the standings behind leader Kyle Larson, expects tough competition for the remainder of the season.
“I think the cream has risen to the top,” Bell said on Saturday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. “Everyone in this room and everyone that pays attention is going to be in for a treat because I’m sure these three races are going to be a war for the race wins and a war for that final transfer spot to make it to Phoenix.”
The next three races will decide the Championship 4 that will head into Phoenix. Bell has been driving competitively this season and is a prominent contender for the championship, which could very well be his first. The 29-year-old recently mentioned that he is "overlooked" as a contender.
"I want to do it my own way": Christopher Bell discusses his championship chances amidst tough competition
The 29-year-old has won three races in the season so far and has remained consistent in the top 10, marking a successful journey so far. However, heading into the final four races could prove to be a tough challenge given the drivers he will have to face.
Discussing his "reserved" personality, Christopher Bell mentioned that he would win the championship and battle in his "own way."
"I think I am often overlooked just because my personality is very quiet and reserved. I want to be known as one of the best racers of all time...You've got to win championships...I want to do it my own way and be my own person," Bell said.
Bell has been racing with Joe Gibbs since the 2021 season and has been a close contender for the championship since. He finished 3rd and 4th in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, drawing extremely close to his first title in the latter. However, it was Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney who won in those particular seasons. Interestingly, he could face a challenge from Blaney again, heading into the three races for the round of eight.
