The post-race incident on the Chicago Street Course wherein Chase Elliott deliberately brushed past Daniel Suarez's ride during the cooldown lap and then brake tested the latter garnered immense spotlight. A similar move was pulled by Bubba Wallace over Alex Bowman after the race for an incident on Lap 25.

According to motorsports reporter Claire B Lang, NASCAR talked about investigating Wallace and Bowman's matter. Meanwhile, Elliott's intentional maneuver against the Trackhouse Racing driver seemingly went unnoticed by the officials. Moreover, no decision has surfaced to date, which resulted in the fans wondering if Elliott has received a free pass.

On Lap 57, Daniel Suarez and the Hendrick Motorsports driver were battling for the 13th spot, but the former fell victim to the fight. As the #9 Chevy contacted the #99 Chevy while overtaking, the latter went into Brad Keselowski's ride. However, Suarez retaliated on the next turn and intentionally wrecked Elliott's rear.

The fuss between the duo continued even after the checkered flag was dropped and the HMS driver brushed past the Trackhouse Racing rival and brake-tested him. But he didn't door-slam Suarez as Wallace did to Bowman.

Bob Pockarass revealed that NASCAR hasn't landed a decision yet, but in some cases, the verdict can come on Wednesday, following the race weekend. This meant Elliott hasn't been awarded any penalty and had so far escaped from the clutches of the officials' ruling.

Upon learning about no developments in the penalty decision concerning Chase Elliott, the fanbase gave their take.

"Golden boy won't get anything," one fan wrote.
"Yeah I don’t think Chase will be penalized either. Neither of them should," another fan concurred.
"What about Chase Elliott hitting Daniel Suarez during the same cool down lap? That should also be investigated," one fan commented.
"Will they be reviewing Elliot/Suarez as well. There needs to be consistency- you can’t penalize some but not others," another fan opined.

Fans also believed that Elliott should be awarded a penalty for his deliberate action.

"Nascars golden boy better get a penalty," they wrote.
"Elliott indefinite suspension incoming!!" another fan commented.

"I pushed him with all my intention"- Daniel Suarez on deliberately wrecking Chase Elliott at Chicago

Daniel Suarez has collected one win, two top-fives, and three top-10s this season. In the second race on the 2024 calendar hosted by the Atlanta Motor Speedway, the #99 Chevy driver stole the victory from Ryan Blaney by a minuscule margin of 0.003 seconds.

However, from the last 11 races preceding the Grant Park 165, Suarez has collected only a solitary top-10 finish at the Iowa Speedway. But the Trackhouse Racing driver could've potentially taken in another top-10 finish during the recent weekend. Nevertheless, after getting wrecked by the charging Chase Elliott, the Mexican driver suffered a big blow to his race pace.

In an instant, Suarez retaliated and wrecked the #9 Chevy on the next turn. Thus, the Trackhouse Racing driver finished 11th while the HMS driver placed his Chevy in 21st place.

“We got together right there in the last couple of corners. He pushed me a little bit, and then I pushed him with all my intention, and I ended up hitting him pretty good on the very last corner. My bad on that,” Suarez said via Frontstrech on X.

Among the drivers under scanner for the cooldown lap incident, only Bubba Wallace is not among the top 16 drivers in the playoff picture.
