Hendrick Motorsports driver Chase Elliott feels that his teammate Kyle Larson is most likely to break a world record. While what exact record he might break was not revealed, it was seemingly related to racing.
Elliott and Larson have formed a formidable partnership since joining forces at Hendrick Motorsports in 2021. While the entire Hendrick team is currently enjoying significant success, the sentiment within the team suggests a clear hierarchy of skills within the team.
In a recent video released on the team's social media handle, the team was asked who would likely break a world record. William Byron and Alex Bowman looked puzzled at first. However, Chase Elliott, who is worth $12 million (according to Celebrity Net Worth), confidently picked Kyle Larson, citing his intense passion for racing and cars as the reason.
"Gotta be Kyle, right? I mean, he's all the time doing all kinds of stuff. Racing, cars. Yeah, we'll go with him," Elliott said.
Interestingly, Larson voted in favor of himself as well.
Chase Elliott on racing against teammate Kyle Larson for the championship: "We have a system"
With Hendrick Motorsports' Chevrolets currently dominating the Cup Series, it's evident that their drivers could find themselves in a fierce battle for the championship. A reporter recently questioned Elliott about this potential intra-team rivalry.
The reporter asked Chase Elliott if his crew intentionally withholds information from the #5 crew to give him an edge in the championship chase. The 28-year-old clarified that this isn't the case, emphasizing that the team follows a "system."
"No, we have a system," Elliott said (at 2:25). "Truthfully, we do. And we do that system every week. That has never changed. Kyle and I raced for a couple of championships against each other, if I'm not mistaken, '21 and '22. We've kind of been in that position. It's not really changed."
Both drivers have clinched their playoff spots for this season. Kyle Larson currently leads the standings with four victories, while Elliott follows closely with one win at Texas. Both have shown exceptional competitiveness throughout the year, positioning them as strong contenders for a successful playoff run.
Larson is on the hunt for his second Cup Series championship. He previously clinched the title in 2021, followed by a seventh-place finish in 2022. Last season, he managed to finish in second place, as Ryan Blaney took the championship.
