Hailie Deegan and AM Racing have parted ways, effective immediately. The upcoming NASCAR female star shared the news via a cryptic post on X, after which AM Racing issued a statement of their own.
Deegan began her career as a race car driver in dirt racing. In 2018, she entered the world of asphalt racing with the NASCAR K&N Pro Series. After proving her mettle in the K&N Pro Series, the California-based racer joined the ARCA Menards Series in 2019, and the Craftsman Truck Series in 2020. Having gained considerable experience, Deegan became a part of the Xfinity Series grid in 2022 with AM Racing.
Deegan had a dismal rookie season in 2022, where she managed to finish in 93rd place. In order to make amends, she began the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series season with a positive outlook. However, with 17 races done so far, Deegan has consistently finished outside of the top 10s. She is currently placed in the 28th position in the driver's standings.
This could likely be the reason for AM Racing to part ways with the 22-year-old racer. Here's a look at the X post shared by AM Racing:
Hailie Deegan has also shared a post on her X page:
"There are always several reasons within a race team as to why things do or do not work, but sadly our goals no longer align. With that being said, myself and AM Racing will be parting ways," Deegan wrote in the X post.
Apart from the aforementioned announcement, Deegan also shared a cryptic message in the same post.
"I'm thankful for the following that I have and everyone who supports me, It's truly only me that knows the whole story and what I need to succeed."
This message seemingly highlights the internal tension between Deegan and AM Racing.
“We are grateful for Hailie’s contributions," AM Racing showcased gratitude towards Hailie Deegan, despite two disappointing seasons
Even though there have been reports indicating a disagreement between AM Racing and Hailie Deegan, the team has expressed appreciation for the young driver from California.
“We are grateful for Hailie’s contributions and dedication as the driver of the No. 15 Ford Mustang during her time with the race team," read the statement by AM Racing.
After witnessing Deegan's performance with David Gilliland Racing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, AM Racing signed her to drive the #15 Ford Mustang in the Xfinity Series in 2022. However, things didn't go as planned for both the team and the 22-year-old racer. Deegan's rookie season saw her finish 93rd out of 112 drivers.
Despite making progress in the ongoing 2024 season, Deegan was unable to create an impact on the team. With no wins or top-10 finishes and three DNFs in 17 races so far, AM Racing has decided to drop Deegan from the team.
As of now, AM Racing has not announced the driver who will replace Deegan in the #15 race car for the race at Pocono Raceway on 13th July.
