NASCAR insider David Land has reported the spotting of Hailie Deegan on site for the upcoming IndyCar race in Iowa. Deegan is being linked to IndyCar post her release from NASCAR Xfinity Series outfit AM Racing.
Emerging as one of the top female drivers in the United States, Hailie Deegan found herself within the bounds of NASCAR by the time 2018 rolled around. Formerly a dirt track driver, Deegan slowly transitioned herself to stock car racing, ultimately finding herself in Toyota's driver development program in 2017.
She made her ARCA Menards Series debut in 2018, and went on to win three races in the West Series. The California native moved to Ford in 2020, before making her full-time Truck Series debut with David Gilliland Racing in 2021.
Deegan moved to ThorSport Racing in 2023 before securing a promotion to the Xfinity Series for the 2024 campaign. The 22-year-old driver found a ride for herself with AM Racing, piloting their No. 15 Ford on a multi-year deal.
However, Hailie Deegan's time in the Xfinity Series was short-lived, and came to a premature end. After a string of disappointing results, which included zero top-10 finishes in 17 races, AM Racing announced that Cup Series driver and two-time Cup champion Joey Logano was stepping in for Deegan for the Xfinity race in Chicago.
Deegan was released from her contract shortly after, and finds herself contemplating the next move in her racing career. Amid the speculations, recent reports from journalist David Land have suggested that Hailie Deegan might be moving to the IndyNXT Series.
According to the report, Deegan was spotted around the IndyCar camp in Iowa, where the upcoming IndyCar events are scheduled. Furthermore, Deegan has also followed IndtNXT and Andretti IndyCar on her Instagram, fueling the speculations around her career.
A look into Hailie Deegan's statements following her release from AM Racing
Following her release from AM Racing, Hailie Deegan released an official statement via her X (formerly Twitter) account. She expressed her disappointment but remained hopeful about her future in racing. Deegan said:
"Beginning this season, I had a lot of excitement and hope in taking my next step in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. It’s something I’ve been working towards for years and always dreamt about. I worked hard to prepare for this season after the team pursued me to drive their car. Unfortunately, it has not turned out the way that I expected. There are always several reasons within a race team as to why things do or do not work, but sadly our goals no longer align. With that being said, myself and AM Racing will be parting ways.
"The only thing I am focused on is getting back to being competitive. That is ALL that matters to me. I’m working as quick as possible to find the best opportunities to get back to the track. I’m thankful for the following that I have and everyone who supports me. It’s truly only me that knows the whole story and what I need to succeed. See you at the track, soon."
If the rumors are true, a move to the IndyNXT Series could be a new beginning for Hailie Deegan. The transition from stock cars to open-wheel racing is significant, but Deegan has already displayed this adaptability previously in her career. It remains to be seen what the future holds for the 22-year-old driver.
